Getting a Parking Permit

It is really easy to get a parking permit at Denison, and it costs $60. The most difficult part of parking comes after you get the permit and actually have to find spot.

College Prowler Take

Parking is a bit of a problem on campus. It isn’t that there aren’t enough parking spaces, but parking spaces can be inconveniently located. Getting a parking permit at Denison is easy; it’s just a matter of paying the money to register your car. And unlike a lot of college campuses, freshmen are allowed to have a car on campus. So, incoming freshmen can consider themselves lucky that they can have a car on campus, but they shouldn’t get too excited, because there is a catch.

Once you have a car on campus, you have to park it. It’s not really very difficult to park at Denison, but it can be inconvenient at times. As a freshman, you will only be able to park down the hill by the far end of North Quad. As you progress through the years, parking gets easier and closer to the buildings in which you’ll live. There are a few places where it is difficult to find a spot, such as behind Curtis East, but the campus has built several new parking lots in the past few years beginning in 2001, and so are attempting to accomodate students and their vehicles.

Pay a $50 per year parking pass fee. This money will get you a registered parking sticker to put on the lower left side of your car. Why you cannot put it on the right side, I do not know. Apparently, it is too much work for security to move right a few feet to check. And once you have registered your car, find your parking lot.

It’s very difficult to park or get a decent parking spot. For those parking closer to dorms, it becomes more difficult. I know of many people who actually refuse to do anything on the weekends for fear of losing a good parking spot.

Parking is horrible if you are a freshman, okay if you are sophomore, and excellent if you are a junior or senior.

Parking is pretty inconvenient for underclassmen. You have to park far from all of the dorms in freshman parking. Sophomores may not park on the East Quad, and often have trouble finding spots in sophomore parking. Even as an upperclassman, parking can be hard to find.

The freshman parking is out by old fraternity row, which is good if, yep, you guessed it, you live on fraternity row. Now, this isn’t as convenient if you live on East Quad.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot
The campus has specific zones for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to park. This takes a lot of the choice out of finding a spot.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here!
It’s nearly impossible to find a spot on East Quad near your residence hall. So many juniors have cars that they often end up parking far from their buildings, and often end up behind East, the freshman dorm.

The Boot!
If you receive five or more parking tickets, you’ll soon find a lock on your wheel.
