  • The teachers. Students love their professors at Denison and really feel like they connect with them, even outside of the classroom.
  • Get a little culture in your life. Make sure to check out the plays at Ace Morgan Theater.
  • If you haven't spent hours talking to your roommate on Instant Messenger, you don't know Denison life.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Most students who come to Denison absolutely love it. While some students find it a mediocre experience, very few would say they hate it. The quality of education is exceptional, and that alone is enough to convince some students that Denison is the place where they belong. A lot of people also fall in love with the intimate atmosphere that seems to pervade the University. Not only do you live among your peers, but most people are also friends with their professors, which results in a feeling of belonging. No one can deny that being good-naturedly teased by their professor doesn’t engender feelings of acceptance. A lot of students also value the safety of the campus. Those students that are unhappy with Denison are generally unhappy with the social scene, lack of diversity, or the exceptional work load. However, your happiness at college is largely a choice. No matter where you go, you will find problems, and you’ll deal with them. Nowhere is perfect.

No matter how fed-up students may get sometimes, no one can claim that the academic opportunities at Denison aren’t amazing, and that the atmosphere isn’t unique. Those that want wild college years can find them, and those that don’t can find that, too. The atmosphere is far from that of a big city, and that is a large portion of Denison’s appeal. It may not be a wild metropolis, but it is exciting in its own way.

A Campus Divided

I was hoping for Denison to be something really special. But after spending a year here, I can honestly say that it hasn't been worth traveling far from home and dealing with the terrible weather. There is not a united sense of community here. Yes, you will find the large majority of people here privileged Greeks, but there are hipsters, intellectuals, nerds and any other category you can think of. The issue is that groups don't interact. If you (like me) can't be categorized by these limiting categories, it's very difficult to find friends here. Honestly, the social scene here seems more stereotypical "high school" than my high school experience was. The classroom experience isn't much better because there is a competitiveness amount students that doesn't match up to the academic expectations here.

I love Denison. Many people say...

I love Denison. Many people say that there’s nothing to do, but it all depends on how involved you get yourself—and that’s your job. I just got back from India, and I definitely may want to be there instead for my final year, but besides that, I’m definitely glad I made the decision to go to Denison.

I love it here, and I wouldn’t change it at all. I definitely feel like I made the right choice. I’ve done so much, but I feel like I haven’t at all over the past two years.
