Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Bike
  • Take the Friday Night Shuttle to a local mall
  • Walk
  • Weasel a ride out of a friend

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Public transportation is pretty nonexistent at Denison. The thriving metropolis of Granville is, well, not a metropolis. You can walk pretty much everywhere you need to go, both on and off campus. The whole campus can be walked in about 30 minutes. Denison University does provide a shuttle to local malls on Friday nights, but there is no everyday shuttle around Granville. Plus, these shuttles do not have the capacity to hold very many students. It’s really quite a stretch to call them public transportation in the traditional sense.

Transportation to travel home or to another destination other than Granville, such as the airport or Greyhound bus station, are all in Columbus, which is about 45 minutes away. Plan ahead when you need to go somewhere so that you can find a friend to drive you into the city, and you’ll be fine. Some people invest in a bike for campus transportation, but it’s pretty rare. Campus is small, and the only students who find a bike to be an absolute necessity are those that live out on the Homestead. There are several bike racks around campus, so bikes are not difficult to store. Enough people bring cars that it isn’t difficult to find a friend to take you places when you need to go farther than the drug store. Go ahead and live life at Denison the good old fashioned way! It’s a lovely place for a walk.

Walking Campus

DU campus is so small that you really don't need a car. Everything on campus is within walking distance. However, if you need anything aside from what CVS offers (ie: groceries, clothes, etc) you would need a car because Granville has almost nothing - everything you would need is in Newark, OH, about a fifteen minute drive away. The school offers free shuttles to and from Walmart, Target, Easton Shopping Center, etc every once in a while, however, this is inconvenient if you don't feel like waiting a week or two for the next shuttle.

There Really Isn't Any

As far as campus transportation goes there really isn't any. Everything is in walking distance. But if you need to got Walmart or the mall there are shuttles that run at spacific times. They work pretty well. You can also sign of vans for club activities.

Small Campus

Denison is a very small campus, so there isn't really a need for the school to provide transportation. However, security does offer safe ride for after dark and will send transportation if necessary to transport a student to the health center.
