Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Honestly, the dating scene at DePaul isn’t the greatest. There are basically three extremes here—students who have dated the same person since high school, students who open their bedroom up to a different person every weekend, and students who appear oblivious to the fact that intimate human relationships exist—none of which seem particularly desirable for a 20-something guy or girl. While there are some exceptions to these rules, they are few and far between.

However, the diversity of the University and the prevalent social and nightlife scenes make it very easy to meet a lot of new people, which is a definite benefit to DePaul. One of the downsides is that the campus will become very small, somewhat quickly, and students will find themselves encountering the same people over and over—whether they want to or not. The way nightlife factors into the dating scene is somewhat split. The bars provide a relaxed and fun atmosphere to meet people, which is great, but the probability that a student is going to have a lasting sober connection with someone they met while more than slightly smashed isn’t terribly high.

Average or Below in Looks

There are just not that many guys that are good looking at DePaul. Honestly, there are a couple I've seen but nothing great. They are interesting which is very important, I've met alot of people that have goals and interests, but none of them are strikingly good looking so if you're going to college to get guys, I'm not too sure about DePaul.

Not the Cream of the Crop

DePaul is weird in this fact. the girl/guy ratio is messed up- way more girls than guys. I mean, most of my classes (granted im a PR major) are ALL girls. since its chicago and an urban area, the sexual preferences of these men at depaul are all over the place. Many girls, few attractive guys.

Well Put Together, Well Informed, but a Little Distracted?

Most of the guys and girls that I've seen are well put together all the time. For example, even if it's in a basketball jersey or sweats, the girls will still have their make-up and hair done. The guys and girls that I've shared a classroom with have seem pretty passionate, knowledgeable, and bothered by the injustices of this world, but seem distracted by money, partying, etc. to really do anything about it.

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene at DePaul is very much centered around the bars near campus. While bars aren’t necessarily the greatest places to meet people, they are definitely one of the first places students get together. At DePaul, some students are very outgoing and others aren’t, but there is generally a place for everyone. DePaul students are very open-minded, so people can be themselves here.

Hookups or Relationships?

The dating scene is very much split among extremes. There are some students at DePaul who have been dating the same person since high school, and there are an equal number who hook up with a different person every weekend. Again, there’s really room for everything here, so students are able to find what they're looking for if they look hard enough.

Dress Code

Some say a downside to living and going to school in a major city like Chicago is that a rather large group of (wealthier) students follow the fashion trends—a scene that is often difficult to keep up with. At DePaul, there are a number of students who revel in getting dolled up for an 8:30 a.m. class, but there are just as many who live out of their laundry baskets. It’s pretty easy to distinguish freshmen from upperclassmen the first few weeks of school because many have yet to learn that an extra hour of sleep is far more important than combing their hair before class. Due to the diversity of people at DePaul, you’ll pretty much fit in no matter what you wear.
