Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For a school in one of the biggest and most urban areas in the United States, DePaul keeps its campus very safe. Public Safety officers constantly patrol on foot and by car, and because the campus is so small, it is pretty difficult not to have one within eyesight at all times. There are blue-light emergency stations in a number of locations on campus, and a student ID is required to enter each dorm—and only the IDs of the residents who live in that dorm will be able to open the door. There is also a card-swipe and check-in desk in the lobby of every dorm, with a staff member seated there 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as a number of security cameras outside each University building.

If you decide to live off campus—which most DePaul students do—it is important to remember you are in a big city. During the day, Lincoln Park feels very safe and secure, so it is not difficult to become somewhat lazy with precautionary measures. But, as in any large city, you should never go anywhere alone at night—whether you’re on or off campus. You need to be aware of your surroundings because, while the University and city of Chicago try to maintain a safe atmosphere, there is still a level of crime that you generally wouldn’t encounter at a state school in a more rural area.If you plan to live off campus, the best place to live is 1237 West, which offers all the same amenties as DePaul housing, including 24-hour security.

Watch Yourself

DePaul is safe, but its in a city which means there's crime no matter what part you're in(Lincoln Park included although its one of the safest neighborhoods in the city). Public Safety does Ok.

Very Safe

I always feel extremely safe on campus and honestly have never given my safety or the safety of others on campus a second thought because there is such a positive, community driven atmosphere at DePaul. I do not live on campus but I can imagine that there are more than enough safety measures put into practice in the DePaul community.
