Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you starve while at DePaul, it is 100 percent your own fault because Chicago offers some of the best food in the world. There are an endless number of places to eat on the four main blocks surrounding campus—especially on Lincoln and Halsted—but this is certainly no reason to stop the food hunt there. The neighborhoods that make up the city of Chicago are primarily broken into ethnic groups, which means the food in each area is usually authentic, amazing, and cheap. It will be hard not to get in the habit of eating out every day, especially if you’re from a smaller city or town and have never had such a large spread of ethnic cuisine available. Chicago’s food is so good, there are even city and neighborhood festivals to celebrate the dining options available there—the most popular and well-known is the Taste of Chicago.

The off-campus dining is definitely something to take advantage of, and discovering another part of Chicago and an amazing restaurant can make for a good adventure with your friends. Many students eliminate their meal plan after freshman year because they find that buying groceries or ordering in is often a lot cheaper and more convenient. Keep an open mind and enjoy the food of Chicago.

Ode to Uncle Sammies

Have nothing in your fridge or just not feeling what you do have? Chicago is known for their amazing food. Right under 1237, which is a dorm at DePaul, lyes Uncle Sammies restaurant. They are very DePaul friendly and encourage students to drop in. They hand out buy on get one free coupons all over campus. They have the best brownies in Lincoln Park! Uncle Sammies is a must have. Besides Uncle Sammies, there are several off-campus dining options around Lincoln Park some are a little on the pricey side but most offer discounts to students. Jam N Honey is a breakfast joint that just opened across from DePaul, which is a hot spot to eat at on the weekends. Don't want to stay in Lincoln Park? Adventure downtown Chicago where they have more then enough dining options to choose from.

Fantastic!!

Being in Lincoln Park or the Loop makes it really easy to find a good place to eat. Most restaurants offer some sort of student discount and some of the restaurants in Lincoln Park offer free delivery to the dorms. Duck Walk (Thai) and Uncle Sammie's (Sandwiches) are practically on campus and delicious. Lincoln Ave is a block away and has a ton of fantastic restaurants. There's also plenty of favorites near both campuses (think Chipotle and Sbarro's).

Depaul Off-Campus Dining

Since it's in the city of Chicago, DePaul's off-campus community is great. The dining is very diverse, especially in terms of cost. You never have to travel far to find a place to eat for whatever price you're comfortable with. Clark St. probably 5 sushi places per block.
