Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

DePauw is definitely home to the quintessential college experience. Students are offered a college town that dominates a small town environment, where full focus is placed on over 2,000 young people who call campus home for nine months of the year. The classes and professors keep students very busy but supply a wealth of knowledge and opportunity.

As with all universities, the experience is what students make of it, but DePauw professors and programs seem to make success especially accessible for those who try. The University is also very conducive to building strong social skills and tight knit friendships that tend to carry on long after graduation. The DePauw network extends across the country and maintains ties between classes, houses, and majors.

A DePauw education has a multitude of benefits, and the allowance to try many different fields and explore areas outside your specific major. The different disciplines teach you how to think, learn, and question. Within the cornfields of north western Indiana, you will learn everything from formulas of physics to the values of friendship. DePauw will offer you four of the best years of your life; it’s up to you to take it.

Enforced Community

I have mostly enjoyed my experience at DePauw. It's in a small town, so there's not much else to do and that tends to lead to a really good sense of community on campus. However, the Greek system is also really strong as a result of this community, which is a double-edged sword. It's not like we have wars between the frats/sororities, but people tend to socialize largely with their organizations, although that environment seems to be relaxing quite a bit. I am both wary and optimistic for next semester.

Pretty Smooth

If you go to DPU make sure you fill out FAFSA AND the DPU financial aid form. They both have to be turned in in order for you to be considered for financial aid, and if you're reapplying and you don't turn in the DPU form, they'll drop $5,000 from your aid package.

DPU gives out tons of scholarship money. I got about 70% of my full cost paid by combining my music and academic scholarships. Yes, you can stack your scholarships here.

Haha...Sports...

The athletics at DPU aren't exactly top notch. In fact, they're not even a notch below that. The campus gets really pumped for sporting events and there's a whole lot of Tiger Pride to rally the teams...but the teams themselves don't have much going for them. Mostly sporting events are viewed as a time to party hard before, during, and after the event.
