Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

DePauw is definitely home to the quintessential college experience. Students are offered a college town that dominates a small town environment, where full focus is placed on over 2,000 young people who call campus home for nine months of the year. The classes and professors keep students very busy but supply a wealth of knowledge and opportunity.

As with all universities, the experience is what students make of it, but DePauw professors and programs seem to make success especially accessible for those who try. The University is also very conducive to building strong social skills and tight knit friendships that tend to carry on long after graduation. The DePauw network extends across the country and maintains ties between classes, houses, and majors.

A DePauw education has a multitude of benefits, and the allowance to try many different fields and explore areas outside your specific major. The different disciplines teach you how to think, learn, and question. Within the cornfields of north western Indiana, you will learn everything from formulas of physics to the values of friendship. DePauw will offer you four of the best years of your life; it’s up to you to take it.

Just Walk, You Will Survive

Everything is so close on such a small campus that walking anywhere is not a big deal, even in the the midst of a blizzard. Also, the fresh air is nice and campus is always so beautiful that the walk is enjoyable. If you are absolutely unable to walk, riding a bike is also easy, though the ride is short and having to lock and unlock the bike is more a a hassle than walking. Then, on late nights if you've partied too hard or it is too cold for your skimpy skirts, SafeRide is a nice way to get you from place to place. However, SafeRide tends to be very busy, especially on the weekend and cold nights, so it is not always an option. I would prefer SafeRide to be a bus system during the weekends because it is frustrating when it is leaving from where you are and going to where you are going, but you are not allowed on the vehicle because your call is not being answered.

Small Town Girl

Greencastle is a nice, historical town, and would be a nice place to retire in. In regards to college students, it does not have too much crazy fun things to offer. There are some great homestyle restaurants and cafes, but in terms of things to do, there is a tiny museum of the town. Campus makes up the majority of the town besides, and there is enough offered on campus at all times that the lack of a town does not affect life too much. I appreciate the lack of distractions and ways to spend all my savings!

Depauwthletics

Though I am not personally involved in many sports, the facilities are open for non-athletes as well as athletes. The facilities are very nice, though the work-out/weight room is a bit small for the amount of students that use it. Aside from this weight room, however, there is plenty of room elsewhere for practices, workouts, or other activities. As a small, private school in tiny Greencastle, Indiana, we don't really attract too many exceptional athletes, but we do pretty well with what we have. Our teams usually defeat our rivals, which is excellent. However, our football team is awful and the amount of fan support at these games is limited to the amount of alcohol present at the tailgates. School spirit is very high aside from this, however, and the close sense of community we all share during sports events is incredible. Whether we win or lose the game/match/meet, we win as a community.
