Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

DePauw has a $412 million endowment and has put much of that money towards improving campus facilities and aesthetics. Campus is constantly changing and growing with a multitude of new buildings or improvements and additions to existing buildings. The most recent change to be seen on DePauw’s campus was the completion of the Green Center for the Performing Arts and the removal of Bowman Pond, a longtime hangout at DePauw that is sorely missed by those who remember it. Completed for the fall 2008 semester, the GCPA, as it is known on campus, is home to the School of Music as well as the communication department. The center boasts practice rooms, performance venues, Café Figaro, and much more.

The $14 million Peeler Art Center is another relatively new addition to the DePauw campus. The center features state-of-the-art studios for ceramics and photography as well as top digital photography and video facilities. There is 5,000 square feet of museum-quality gallery space, as well as 3,000 square feet of additional space. Julian Math and Science Center has also undergone renovations in recent years that added of 100,000 square feet to the building. Each faculty member in the Julian building has their own personal research lab which allows students private places to research when collaborating with a professor. With the exception of the Lilly Center, DePauw facilities are very well maintained. The campus is constantly growing and improving, keeping up with the high quality of students it attracts each year with the fast pace of technology. The Lilly Center could use updated equipment, a better air conditioning system, and more machines, but this neglect is definitely not the norm at DePauw. The majority of facilities are top-of-the-line inside and out, adding to both the function and beauty of campus.

Library Is a Popular Place! :)

The library is made out of 3 floors plus a basement. As a student coming in you learn that the first floor you are able to make noise but as you keep going higher and higher the quieter you have to be. The library is very popular among students since they have study rooms and tables where you can meet with your friends and do homework all together. They also have a cafe that is opened in the morning until 11 at night which is great when you're out doing and work and need a quick wake up.

Athletics Center, Libraries, and Campus Activities

Libraries never seem overly crowded. There are several buildings outside of the library that are good studying environments. The athletic center is adequately equipped. However, the checkout desk for thins like rackets closes too early (an hour after most students are getting out of class.) The campus is usually buzzing with activities that range from dance courses to political discussions.

Favorite Things To Do

The Lilly Center offers workout facilities, racquetball courts, personal training options, and dance and aerobic classes if you want to add a little physical activity to your day. You can hit around the tennis ball or run laps at the Indoor Tennis and Track Facility. The Nature Park offers hiking trails, a canoe launch, and an amphitheater within its nearly 500 acres of woodlands. The CCM offers video and editing equipment for students, as well as a campus radio station and full television station. If you would rather just watch television, you can lounge by the big screens in the basement of the UB or at the Duck in the Social Space.

Sip on Starbucks and people-watch in the quad before class, attend open-mic night at the Duck, drink 40s at 4 p.m. or any casual drinking on frat porches, compulsively check Tigermail, or attend Theme nights!
