College Prowler Take
Greek life and social life at DePauw are virtually one in the same. So much so, that 75 percent of the campus is involved in the Greek system, making DePauw one of the most Greek universities in the country. Although you will find quite a few stereotypical pearl clad, ribbon-wearing sorority girls, and a whole host of polo-attired fratastic guys, with such a large Greek system, each house offers something for just about anyone’s needs and interests. The campus strives to combat the Greek party-scene reputation by offering many campus-wide activities for independents, as well as Greeks. When night falls, though, most students are found beer ponging at Beta or stumbling the party trail from ATO to Phi Psi. Most weekend days are marked by Greek philanthropy events, which are open to all of campus, but the social networks the Greek system provides can be exclusionary to those on the outside. Those not interested in the Greek system should not completely discount the University, but an open mind towards the recruitment process and a love of the movie Animal House are a benefit to any student choosing DePauw. Whether it is for the life long bond of brotherhood and sisterhood, or the endless theme nights and cheap house beer, the Greek system adds a charm and flavor to DePauw that few universities can match.

Greek Life is huge at DePauw (85 percent of students are Greek-affiliated). Most parties occur in the Greek houses, yet everyone (Greek or not) is invited to parties. You do not have to be Greek at DePauw to have fun. |

The Greek life is the social life. While that may sound bad, it is actually perfect. Because everyone is involved in the Greek life, it is not as bad as at other schools. Yes, recruitment is competitive; however, the unity for Greek life in general is rather impressive. Everyone works hard in all areas of their life (academics, athletics, volunteer) in order to proudly represent their Greek unit. I believe this atmosphere helps create an independent, bright, and team-player mentality that helps DePauw students excel more than others. |

Greek life pretty much is the social scene; independent activities just don’t seem to get as much attention focused on them, (not that it’s their fault at all, though, it’s just hard on a Greek-dominated campus). |
