| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
The Career Center is one of the best and most under-utilized resources on campus. The Career Center offers office hours for students to come in and discuss career possibilities, search databases, have résumés checked, or simply get questions answered. The Career Center also hosts a variety of workshops for students getting ready to enter the workforce: Interviews101, Resumes & Cover Letters, Working Abroad, Networking, Internships, and Grad School Preparation, to name just a few. DePauw is also a great school to form connections and networking skills. The close contact of alumni to the University is very beneficial for students’ internship and job hunts. DePauw alumni like to hire DePauw students. One of the largest advantages of the small, private school education is the network of alumni who like to take care of their own. Even beyond alumni connections, many businesses come to DePauw to interview prospective employees. The University holds a job fair, as well as a grad school fair, each semester. Employers also come to campus regularly to meet with students whose information they have received via DePauw’s online postings. • Use the career center as much as possible. • Start building connections as an underclassmen. • Get as many internship experiences as possible. • Use the alumni directories. • Be familiar with the services the University provides. • Attend job fairs. • Speak with other students—many internships are passed down annually. • Use your abroad experience as a time to work or intern.
