Greencastle is definitely not a Mecca of fine dining. DePauw students do not have the luxury of a vast array of dining options. There are a few student favorites—Marvin’s, No. 1 Chinese, and Mama Nunz—but for the most part, the fare leaves quite a bit to be desired. The majority of dining options in town are fast food—McDonald’s, Arby’s, Wendy’s, Subway, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s. The lack of availability for healthy food options is a concern of many students, and weekend dining options are generally limited to "greasy" or "greasier."
On the positive side, dining is relatively inexpensive and most everything is in close proximity. For example, Marvin’s is a street away from campus while restaurants like Chief’s South by Southwest and Almost Home are just minutes away on the Square. This is nice for students who don't have the time to travel for food during the day. For students wishing to get some time away from campus, Plainfield and Indianapolis are less than an hour away. Plainfield offers restaurants such as Applebee’s and Culver’s that are cheap eats for college students, and Indianapolis restaurants such as St. Elmo’s Fire and P.F. Chang’s are great date destinations. These restaurants are a good alternative for those who need a break from the nearby dining options with their excessively greasy food.
