College Prowler Take
DePauw is a four-year residential university, meaning that all students live on campus all four years. Within the last few years, the University has done away with OIT, Out in Town, housing which was rented to students by home owners who served as land lords. All student housing is now University-owned, which makes it subject to University rules. This entails registering parties, being subject to damage penalties, and disciplinary actions for student conduct code breaches. With the shift to University ownership, many campus housing options have been greatly improved. Students can choose between newly-designed duplexes, family-style homes, apartments, or suite-style dormitory living. Priority is given to independent students first, and then by seniority amongst Greek students. All of the housing arrangements are done by a lottery, in which students are given a number, and upon their number being chosen, they are allowed to pick their living unit and roommates of choice. All upperclassmen housing is within a five-minute walk from nearly all buildings on campus. The living areas are generally larger and offer amenities such as kitchens, laundry facilities, and private rooms. The houses are often a nice break from the restrictions of the Greek system and offer students a taste of real world living, even if it is only on the fringe of the DePauw bubble.

The is no off-campus housing at DePauw. Most students tend to live in Greek houses after freshman year, but there are other options for independents. The University owns several houses and duplexes in the campus area, but the lottery is all luck of the draw and residential (non-dorm) housing is limited.

There is no off-campus housing....
There is no off-campus housing. There are plenty of awesome housing options, but because of the housing lottery there is the potential to get screwed over if you are a Greek student attempting to live outside of the sorority/fraternity houses.

We do not offer off-campus housing, but the apartments and duplexes available through the school are very convenient and are pretty nice to live in!

There are Pleasantville-like houses of two floors (four to a floor) in a charming little neighborhood behind the academic quad. That’s where I’m headed junior year. They also built a new housing complex in North Quad where Rector Hall used to be (fourth floor had a big fire) which is apartment-style and looks very nice. |
For Assistance Contact
Only student families, students 23 or older, and students who have completed eight or more semesters at DePauw may live off campus. Otherwise, students must live in residence halls, Greek/theme housing, or in the University-owned apartments and houses.
