Parking Permits
All students must register their cars with the University in the fall. This is taken care of by giving your license plate number and car description to public safety. Upon turning in the paper work, students receive different permits depending on their year and living unit. It is very easy and convenient to do, and you can now even do it online at www.depauw.edu/student/safety/parking/parkapplyforpermit.asp.
College Prowler Take
Cars are allowed all four years at DePauw, and with a $20 parking permit, you can find ample room to park your BMW next to frat guy Jon’s Jeep or Joe’s Mercedes. The beauty of parking on campus is that there’s lots of it; the downside is that you may walk just as far to get your car as it would take you to walk to where you are planning to go. First year parking is located next door to residence halls; however, upperclassmen parking tends to be more scattered throughout campus. Upperclass sorority women fair the worst when it comes to parking since their houses have the least available spots, but even with a two-block walk, parking is of little concern.
The necessity of a car is questionable, but most people choose to have one. Like many other schools, people drive to class just to drive to class, or out of pure laziness. All classes and most collegiate activities are definitely within walking distance, and a shuttle is offered for the weekly Wal-Mart trips. People have cars all four years for the sheer comfort it offers; just in case one ever feels the need to get away or take part in the much acclaimed “Putnam County Covered Bridge Tour” (maps are available at all town shops and gas stations), their cars are needed. It also comes in handy for the always popular tailgate or a road trip to the many other Indiana schools nearby.

It’s easy to park for the freshmen living in South Quad, but there really isn’t much parking on the North part of campus where a lot of the sororities and frats are located. |

There is limited parking on campus, but it is generally not too difficult to find a spot near your residence. The Greek Houses all have private parking lots, which helps to clear up some congestion in parking on campus. |

Parking is pretty tight, but none of the lots are further than a five-minute walk from the dorms. For the amount that you use your car, it is pretty convenient. |
