Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dickinson has a very attractive student body—students normally have impeccable physical appearances and are intelligent, as well. The Kline Athletic Center is constantly full of students working out to stay in shape, and Dickinson was recently ranked the most physically fit college in the nation by Men’s Fitness magazine. Students also dress the part—being put together is not just sn option on this campus, which is evident in the moniker of the cafeteria’s center aisle: “the catwalk.”

Like any college campus, random hookups are prevalent, but Dickinson is very small, so awkward interactions with past hookups are inevitable. However, you won’t find a large number of students who have many regrets in this area because people here are usually pretty smart about what they do with the people they’re attracted to. Hookups usually happen between individuals who live near each other or have met at parties or other social events, and it is not uncommon for a regular hookup to turn into a long-term relationship. Overall, it is easy to say that Dickinson has an average amount of promiscuity as far as college students are concerned.

Everyone Looks the Same

It's an attractive campus, sure, if you are into conventional upper-middleclass white American good looks. You can pretty much sum up 80% of the student body that way.

Pretty much anyone can find a niche at Dickinson. There's plenty of athletic, hard-partying frat types, if that's what you're interested in. But I've honestly never met any guy here who I couldn't have a great conversation with. Most people have layers—sometimes they're just hidden well! Pretty much everyone you meet is super-involved with something, so even if you don't have a lot of mutual interests, it's nice to know that they have a passion. You have to be at least somewhat studious to survive here, so even the really pretty but vacant-looking girls do a lot of library time. You can wear pretty wear much whatever you want—getting dressed up isn't unusual if you feel like it, but a huge percentage of people also wear sweatpants. It's a very accepting campus.

Facts

Social Scene

Dickinson students are very social. From frat dance parties to gathering in someone's room to watch movies, students (especially freshmen) love to do everything in big groups. It isn't uncommon to find groups of kids chilling at the Quarry together or watching movies in the dorms on weeknights, and students like to meet for study in dorm lounges and the library, as well. Weekends generally start on Thursday, because students usually need to "hunker down" during the week to get their work done, and kids get together with anyone from their roommates and neighbors in the dorms to people they meet in classes to party.

Hookups or Relationships?

Girls on campus are generally more likely to be involved in serious relationships than guys are. Random hookups are as normal here as they are anywhere else.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The best way students at Dickinson meet each other is through parties and social gatherings of different clubs and organizations. Dance and themed parties sponsored by fraternities and other groups are common and are generally considered to be fun ways to meet people and/or find a hookup. Many students often become close with their freshman residence floors as well, and it is not uncommon to find seniors living with people they met in their dorms freshman year.

Dress Code

Walking on Dickinson's campus is likened by many students to entering a J.Crew catalog. Dress is generally expensive, preppy, and trendy. For girls, the must-haves include fleece North Face jackets, Seven jeans, bags by Longchamp or Vineyard Vines, and Uggs. Guys wear a lot of Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines pants, and button-down shirts, as well North Face jackets. Sperry shoes are frequently seen on both sexes. On more casual days, students often wear sweatshirts, sweatpants, and T-shirts with the Dickinson and/or their fraternity or sorority logos. BlackBerrys and iPhones are common accessories.
