Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dickinson employs such a tight-knit safety squad—Dickinson Public Safety or DPs—that security has never been much of a concern among students. Though there have recently been a few violent incidents in the area surrounding campus, these are few and far between. There is a blue light visible from nearly every point on campus that can be pressed to contact DPS, who will arrive at the light within minutes. Thus, students generally feel safe walking anywhere on campus at any hour of the day. In addition, Dickinson has recently implemented a “Red Alert” system, which sends out mass text messages and phone calls to students when a crime occurs on or near campus.

It is this tight security that allows students to feel safe on campus. There are rarely safety concerns, but when there are, DPS is on the scene within minutes and maintains contact with the student body throughout the investigation. From their walks around campus to their presence at college events, Public Safety is a constantly visible presence at Dickinson.

Good Campus Security Presence

You see campus security patrolling the grounds and surrounded streets constantly. They are very friendly as well. Poverty in Carlisle is pervasive and so there is a highly skilled security team. They are especially skilled at giving out MIPs and failing to catch the numerous sexual predators.

SAFETY COMES FIRST!

On Dickinson College campus we have DPS and they are really good at keeping students safe. They respond to anything such as parties, dorm fire alarms going off as well as any social events right away. They are always on full alert. We have safety rides to places in town available to every student so if you need to go somewhere there always ready to escort you there and they make sure that each student reaches their destination safe. They also offer self defense classes which teaches student how to defend themselves by using different scenarios and they always take the time out to sit down with students and speak to them about anything their concerned about on campus. Last year we had an area on campus that when students are walking there they get scared because there was no lighting present at all and that you couldn't see anything when walking; once someone told the DPS they went right away to check out the area and they made sure a light was placed there. Also they established blue lights on our campus where every area has one and in case of an emergency students can press the blue bottom and DPS responds right away to you and if you need them they move very fast. I feel very safe on my campus; for I can step outside late at night with no worries because their always on alert. There isn't an hour that goes by that you don’t see the public safety guards driving pass or walking pass and making sure that the campus and students is safe. Each one of the DPS staff members take every situation and question you ask even about rape, situations, or anything that students fear serious and for that reason I feel very safe.
