College Prowler Take
Students who wish to move off campus must apply to Campus Life during their junior year at Dickinson. It is a completely random selection process, and approximately 150 seniors live off campus each year. Dickinsonians chosen to live off campus are required to attend a seminar about productive neighborhood living in an effort to maintain a positive relationship between students living in the community and Carlisle residents. Off-campus residences vary, just like the dorms. It’s a matter of personal preference, and the more you are willing to pay and the earlier you begin to look, the better place you will find to live.Most students who live off campus say they like it because they see it as a cheaper option than living in the dorms. Additionally, a lot of students like to live off campus because of the privacy it allows. Since students who live off campus are seniors and legally allowed to drink, they want to be able to have people over to party; living on campus, there is much larger chance of getting caught, and kegs are not permitted in any Dickinson-owned housing. Off-campus housing option also allows seniors to get closer to the real world and prepare for life after college. Students Speak Out

Only seniors are allowed to live...
Only seniors are allowed to live off campus, and not all seniors—there is a lottery. The rent off campus is fairly cheap—much cheaper than on-campus housing—and many places are available to rent.

Housing on campus is guaranteed...
Housing on campus is guaranteed all four years, and the College has a lot of different options, so it's generally not worth it to go off campus. Freshman and sophomore year, everyone lives on campus, and junior year pretty much everyone's abroad, so you don't have to worry about housing. The College actually owns a lot of real estate in town, so you can get a sweet townhouse or apartment your senior year without having to worry about buying furniture or anything!

Off-campus housing is affordable...
Off-campus housing is affordable and plentiful, but the on-campus housing is comparable, if not better. The off-campus lottery results come out late enough that it is often inconvenient to find a decent house. Apartment-style living on campus is convenient and almost guaranteed, based on the number of spaces available.

Living off campus is a privilege, not a right. Only seniors can apply to live off campus. The process is pretty fair, but only about 150 students can live off campus a year.

Off-campus housing is not...
Off-campus housing is not available until senior year, but they only approve 150 students to live off campus. It is a rather inconvenient process, but I believe it is worth it since Carlisle housing is on the cheaper side, and most people living off campus are still extremely close.
