College Prowler Take
Dickinson employs such a tight-knit safety squad—Dickinson Public Safety or DPs—that security has never been much of a concern among students. Though there have recently been a few violent incidents in the area surrounding campus, these are few and far between. There is a blue light visible from nearly every point on campus that can be pressed to contact DPS, who will arrive at the light within minutes. Thus, students generally feel safe walking anywhere on campus at any hour of the day. In addition, Dickinson has recently implemented a “Red Alert” system, which sends out mass text messages and phone calls to students when a crime occurs on or near campus. It is this tight security that allows students to feel safe on campus. There are rarely safety concerns, but when there are, DPS is on the scene within minutes and maintains contact with the student body throughout the investigation. From their walks around campus to their presence at college events, Public Safety is a constantly visible presence at Dickinson.

There is occasionally some crime in the community, but on-campus crime doesn't really happen because the school is so small, and everyone knows everyone else. DPS (public safety) is helpful when you need them, but they spend a lot of time writing parking tickets and busting parties held in dorm rooms.

The immediate boundaries of the campus are very secure, and I always feel safe here. A few of the surrounding neighborhoods are kind of difficult, though, and authorities have asked students to be vigilant. I don't walk home by myself at 3 a.m., but I probably wouldn't do that anywhere.

There seems to be some more crime lately, mostly off campus, and students have been robbed while off campus. There is a security alert system that texts your phone and e-mails you when things a occur. There are safe Rides available around campus but not from off-campus areas like the bars. I feel safe walking around campus at night, but many people prefer to call for Safe Rides.

There are not too many safety risks on campus. There are some bad spots in town, but they are not near campus. There is a campus police hotline that you can call if there are any unsafe situations.

There have been some instances of crime in the area surrounding campus, but on campus is incredibly safe. Security is always around. There is a Safe Ride program if you need an escort at night, and there are blue emergency call boxes all over campus.
