This is the first time I have ever applied for scholarships, so far the application process are ok.

Its ND so it snows in the winter and get quite cold. It also reaches extremes in the summer of over 100 degrees. The rest of the time Sep-Nov and April-June the weather is quite nice and I enjoy being outside.

I do not live on campus, I am married and live in a house we rent.

This is the third collage I have attended and the student advisors are so far the best, the work very hard to keep you in school and help you graduate.
College Senior 2013-07-26T18:57:26Z
The main reason that off-campus housing is graded so low is due to the recent influx of people to the western part of ND associated with the oil boom. Rent has gone up and places to live have become unavailble.

I would say that the drug scene is not really that prevalent at this school. The only drug used would be marijuana and people tend to keep that pretty quiet.
College Sophomore 2013-05-16T02:08:05Z
There are a few bars that many of the students over 21 go to on a Friday or Saturday night. I would say that a majority of the partying though is done at houses with maybe about 20 friends or so. However, there are bigger parties every now and then which are fun and you get to meet people.

DSU does a good job of bringing in a diverse group of students. North Dakota is comprised of mostly white (non-hispanic) people, but DSU has a lot of foreign exchange students and students from other states.

my school is a multi-cultural school with people from all over the continents; Africa, Asia, Australia, North America....

Drug Policy – Because of the alcohol and drug policy no student is seen with any form of drug or alcohol on school ground

Oil Fields – This is a great question for this day in age for Dickinson, ND. Everything is changing drastically. They have been hit by oil in the last few years and it had grown tremendously. Everyone I've talked to that knew Dickinson before the oil hit, say it was definitely a change for the worst. There are becoming more and more rapes and murders occur there than there ever have before. It is a good thing for the town because of all the money it is bringing in to the area. Safety is a major issue in Dickinson. I still go shopping and do all the fun things I would normally do, but I definitely don't do it alone.

Smoking was something Dickinson State University was trying to become more strict on while I was there last year. I believe it was their first year of actually being a smoke free campus. They tried to be strict on it, but like anything, it is kind of hard to control. I lived in a dorm on the outskirts of campus and students would go behind there and smoke. If they were caught, they were really strict with them, but it was hard to catch them.

Guys & Girls:
The students at Dickinson State University are very diverse, to say the least. There are people of all kinds there! There is a group of jocks of course, along with many others, and there are people from many different countries. The girls are your typical girls. They are fun and flirty. Some are athletic, others are everything but athletic. I would say overall, the girls are great and the guys are great and we mix really well!

Parking permits are only $30 and there is always adequate and convenient parking.
Recent Alumnus 2012-05-10T16:13:15Z
Small Campus – The campus is small so walking or biking is the best option. It's a great way to save money on other means of transportation and is also very green.

DSU recruits athletes mostly from WestCoast. The basketball team core is almost from California. The track team consists of athletes from Phoenix, AZ. Games are not really exciting though. Plus they occur rarely, like 3 times per semester.

Too Country – I'm an urban person, and DSU is a tiny country Wild West spirited town in the middle of North Dakota. I had no common interests with college community whatsoever. The home students either discuss the food, or get drunk on weekends and chew tobacco. There are no places to go entertainment wise. Education wise DSU is ok, although many professors who are not from North Dakota tend to have a "sloppy" attitude" towards the classes they teach because they know they are not working at DSU permanently. At the moment (April 2012) DSU going through the hard times. There is the shady story about the college President faking the numbers of its graduates and current students. One of the deans committed suicide because he was involved in the story too, look it up on Google.
Overall, you might like DSU if you got used to a small town life. As for me, the college is really boring and depressing.
College Junior 2012-01-26T22:11:57Z
There really is not much to do on campus other than class and taking naps. There are dances every 3 weeks or so, and a party only if someone decides to host one off campus. Most of the off-campus parties get busted by city police pretty early. There might be more parties if most of our students weren't Chinese...
College Junior 2012-01-26T22:09:21Z
Room and Board Need to Be Seriously Assessed. The cafeteria at DSU is not very good at all. It has gotten better since the inductment of our new president however. For the price we pay, the food does not meet the needs of the students. It is very repeated, such as chicken and pizza everyday, with little other variety. The same dessert bars are served every week, and the drink machines are never kept filled so that variety is also reduced. The dorms are even worse. There are zero rooms on campus built for more than 2 people, yet about 40% of the dorms have 3 students. The cleaning staff is short, yet they don't hire anyone and the cleaning in the dorms does not get well done, if it gets done at all. The director of housing is very lazy, and is never available in her office. The RD's of the three separate dorm buildings do not work together and create a somewhat hostile environment when it comes to dealing with the administration in the dorms. This school is great if you only go for the education and do not have to live in the dorms or eat at the cafeteria.

Health & Safety:
Mostly Safe – I believe Dickinson State University to be a very safe school, with the exception of a few thefts on campus, which is mostly due to students not locking their doors. The campus security guard is always on duty and watching the campus for any suspicious activity. I have never felt uncomfortable to be by myself on this campus.
College Senior 2012-01-15T18:35:50Z
The college does not provide any type of transportation; campus, local, or long-distance for her students. If one is made available, I strongly believe a number of students will be happy with the idea.
College Senior 2012-01-15T18:30:56Z
Campus Smoking – Campus smoking at Dickinson University was discouraged around the spring of 2011. The campus Securities and other resident assistants and/or directors ensure that students comply with the smoking rules. Students who violate the rules are either made to pay a fine or face the disciplinary committee.
College Senior 2012-01-15T17:16:01Z
Most of the professors love their job: they are willing to assist in and out of class with topics, home-works, and other related areas of concern that are unclear to their students. They also exercise astute knowledge of the classes they teach.
College Junior 2011-11-18T02:04:22Z
the parking situation is good, permits are obtained at a much lesser price than other schools, there is really no need for a car on campus except for just maybe when you need to go into town to get some stuffs, and cars are necessary owing to the very cold condition of the state.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
