Sioux Center is a sheltered community to begin with, and Dordt has its own little sheltered community within the town community, so there is no need to feel unsafe. There have been a couple instances where strange people who do not belong at Dordt have been caught wandering around campus, but with the College being small, those kinds of people are easy to pick out and get rid of before anything bad actually happens. Campus security walks around campus at night, but mostly they're looking to catch students drinking. The outside doors to the dorms lock at 10 p.m. on weeknights and lock at midnight on weekends. Your student ID card is your key to get in after those times. On the weekends, the main entrance to the dorms is the only way to get in; the outside wing doors stay locked all weekend.
Security is not really an issue, but it's tighter in some places than others. Covenant Hall is the only dorm that has security cameras in the main lobby and wing entrances. RAs sit in the lobbies of the freshman and sophomore dorms every night between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. An RA is always on duty and can be reached by phone, but that is mostly for students who forget their IDs and get locked out. In the halls, few students actually lock their dorm doors.
