College Prowler Take

The authorities at Drexel are strict when they need to be. For example, students who drink when they should not be drinking are rarely punished. Security and police are more interested in breaking up a rowdy party to ensure everyone’s safety. They have more urgent things to take care of in the city. So, as long as you do not force them to take action against you by foolishly putting on a drunken public display, then you probably should be fine. Although the drug scene is not that large, there have been instances when Drexel has enforced its “zero tolerance for drugs” rule. People have gotten expelled with no questions asked for drug possession and/or use. This University is very strict about drugs.

Other than drinking and drugs, you don’t hear of people getting caught or punished for anything, but there is occasional vandalism, and maybe fighting once in a while. Other things you can get in trouble for are downloading copyrighted material, running on the roof tops of buildings, being too noisy in your dorm room, and illegal parking. But mostly, you have to be involved in doing something that is harmful to yourself or others to get in serious trouble.

When it comes to drinking, Drexel...

When it comes to drinking, Drexel Public Safety (DPS) has a somewhat "hands-off" approach, electing to allow RAs and other building staff to deal with it. RAs do rounds twice at night on weeknights and three times on weekends, and are pretty good at what they do. It's probably best not to drink in the residence halls. If word gets out that you're having a party in your house or apartment off campus, DPS may show up to bust it. If you're at a party that gets busted, you'll generally get off the hook, so it's not that big of an issue, as long as you're not so drunk that you can't walk straight. Just be smart about it.

I wouldn't say Drexel is any stricter than any other college campus. Just don't do anything really dumb and you should be fine.

Drexel has a strict zero-tolerance policy when it comes to drugs. Many students are expelled each year for drug policy violations. In one case, a student was arrested and accused of allegedly manufacturing and distributing heroin. Before he was even indicted, he received a letter from Drexel stating that he had been expelled. He was later found to be innocent, and sued the police force that arrested him.

Unless someone is hurting someone else, I think they kind of turn their heads. Because it’s a college campus, there is probably too much going on for them to stop everyone.
