Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life is quite visible on campus, but there is certainly a social scene outside of the frats. Although the frats and sororities have a strong presence, a lot of money, and normally members that hold positions in many other student organizations, not that many Drexel students are involved in Greek life. They do throw the biggest parties, but they are usually frequented by those already involved in Greek life, in one way or another. Drexel has a large commuter population, and that section of students is not that involved in socializing on campus, especially with the Greeks.

As with most college campuses, the people in Drexel’s frats and sororities are very tight. Don’t expect to break into their cliques unless you plan to pledge. If you do plan, make sure to visit drexelgreeks.student-org.drexel.edu to get the lowdown on each frat, sorority, and Greek council. If you are interested in pledging, come to Activities Day during Welcome Back Week in the fall. You’ll be able to meet a lot of Greeks, and you’ll learn about their activities and organization’s history. Some popular Greek activities (other than binge drinking) include community service collaboration with other student organizations (like Circle K and Habitat for Humanity) and intramural sports competition.

Greeks Are All About Themselves

Many Greek life students I know are constantly having to sacrifice study and work time because of all their mandatory Greek events. Many Greek life students stick to their own Greek cliques. I haven't been aware of any community service or charity events Greek life has done; they appear to put all their time and effort into having fun for themselves. One of my close friends was harassed by a several frat brothers because he's a homosexual. I really have nothing positive to say about Drexel's Greek life.

Not Required Freshman Year

The greek life is very vibrant and seems to attract many to it. Though at this point in time, I do not feel like it is necessarily required. I've had a lot of exciting times with my floor of my dorm and very few of us have joined fraternities for this reason. I see the greek life as something more enthralling sophomore year or one of the other upperclassmen levels.

Greek Life

Greek life has a positive influence on campus. Students join greek life as a resume builder and a way to meet friends and stay involved on campus. Unlike some somes, Greek life here is not a necessity. I am not in Greek life but have many friends who are in Greek life.
