Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are simply more guys than girls here, and they are not much to look at. It’s true; we can be a very “geeky” bunch, as most tech schools will admit. There are a lot of relatively unkempt guys walking around in big hooded sweatshirts and baggy cargo pants or jeans, but that just means we’re harder workers! Seriously, however, that’s more stereotypical of the university as a tech school. You’ll notice that a great deal of the guys majoring in business or the arts/social sciences look a bit smoother, and are usually slimmer and more kept up. Although the guys are not that great looking, the girls don’t really have anything special either. Every once in a while you’ll bump into a real hottie, but then you never see her again. The difference here is that the good-looking girls, however few, are more spread out over curricula. Whereas the guys are mostly split between “geeky” and smooth in computer science or engineering and arts/social science programs respectively, the attractive girls are spread out over each program of study, and aren’t necessarily concentrated in one area. This goes for the unattractive girls as well.

It boils down to this: Drexel girls think the guys are geeks and Drexel guys think the girls are stuck up and prudish (don’t ask me why). The funny thing is that both turn to Penn for romance on occasion, and most of the time it works out and everyone’s happy.

Decent, Keep an Eye Out

The girls here are overall not bad. Drexel has a lot of Butts and Boobs, but lack of face in some spots. But there will always be a bunch of girls that make you say to yourself, "they go here!?".

Guys and Girls

A lot of the younger girls are cliche airheads, who dress alike and travel in packs. The guys are the same. As people mature though, everyone seems to be cool. I guess it's all about growing up. There is a crowd for everyone though. If you join clubs and activities that fit your interests, you'll definitely get friends for life. There are really good people at the school.

A Scattered Few Gems

While some might find that the average Drexel, or indeed Philadelphian, female is not quite what one is looking to deal with for extended periods of time, upon a closer inspection one might find that there are quite a few "nice" girls. By nice I imply that they are not only good looking, (i.e. not "ghetto") but sweet of spirit and mind. Unfortunately, there is quite the party scene, so one might find it hard to find these few gems scattered amongst the dross.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

It is very easy to make friends at Drexel, even if you are shy and timid. You will always find something in common with people in your dorm and/or your major. As with most colleges, there isn't really any social hierarchy because of the substantial size of the student body. The social scene is very laid-back—there's really no pressure. People make new friends every year and go at their own pace.

Hookups or Relationships?

Although hookups are a large part of the Drexel social scene, many students do get involved in relationships. It is common for Drexel students to date each other; however, there is a fair number of female students who date older males that do not attend Drexel (or are out of college altogether).

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Going out to the clubs and bars is almost always a sure fire way to meet desirable guys and girls. People usually stay in the West Philadelphia area for this, but it is fairly common for people to go downtown to Old City and party at the numerous bars and clubs in that district.

Dress Code

Being that it's a tech school, Drexel has a lot of hoodies and cargo pants, trenchcoats and sunglasses, and shirts buttoned to the top tucked into pants that are way too small. But, there are a lot of students who take pains to look smooth. Students of both sexes frequently wear tight, shiny clothing. There are virtually no preppy clothes, and the jocks always look like they just came from the gym. The dress code during a typical school day in college doesn't really matter anyway—some people even come to class in pajamas and slippers.
