Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Yes, there have been some criminal incidents, even some serious ones. Drexel has taken steps to work at preventing serious crimes in the future. Students do generally feel safe with the strong presence of campus security. All throughout University City you will see Drexel security officers, Philadelphia police, University of Pennsylvania Police, and emergency posts. Although the students are generally well protected, it would be wise to brush up on some street smarts before living here. Philadelphia is a wonderful city, and it’s important to keep yourself safe so that you can enjoy it along with the rest of your college experience. The key is to be wise and make smart decisions. Stay out of areas that are unfamiliar, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid traveling alone at night. Keep these things in mind, and you shouldn’t have any problems.

As safety is always a primary concern, so is health. Drexel students agree that the Student Health Center has some wonderful doctors, but the nurses leave something to be desired, and the center keeps disgraceful hours. The services offered at the center are extensive, which is commendable. The Student Heath Center can be counted on to ensure patient privacy, and they will see you in a timely manner, even if you are a walk-in.

Rather Safe

I have never felt unsafe. There is security on campus 24/7, blue light emergency stands everywhere do you can call for help, you can call public safety to help you or to just walk you home if you feel unsafe, and the area the school is in is in its own bubble but if you go out if the boundaries it can get sketchy. We get reports of incidences the minute they happen so you can avoid the area and get clearance reports when the area is safe.

Generally Good

Although some danger such as robberies and personal attacks did exist, those cases happened rarely and in places that were not close to the University Main Campus. The police cycle around the campus 24/7 and are ready to help. But to be fair, because the university is located in a city, unfortunately it's not 100% safe.

Makes Me Somewhat Nervous

I have only felt unsafe if I walk outside Drexel's campus or when I walk home really late at night. However, if you ever feel unsafe you can call Drexel's 24/7 Security for an escort. Keep your dorm room door locked at night and your windows shut to prevent any people from trying to get in.

Did You Know? There are two world-class hospitals immediately surrounding campus—the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Presbyterian Hospital. If you have insurance (other than Drexel's) you can see doctors at these hospitals. You can also go to their emergency rooms with or without insurance.
