College Prowler Take
University City isn’t very pretty, with the exception of Locust Walk on Penn’s campus. There are tons of things to do in University City, like dine, shop, play sports, community service, etc. Don’t forget Center City is only minutes away within walking distance. There, you can witness many historical landmarks that have housed many significant events in American history. You can even see the original Constitution! Even some old houses in Old City and Society Hill are historical landmarks. Indeed, Philadelphia can be a never-ending architecture lesson if you pay attention to the workmanship of most of the buildings in the city. Philadelphia is a city rich in art. Be sure to see the impressive collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum. If visiting traditional museums is not your thing, check out the Mutter Museum at 22nd and Chestnut—it’s a museum of medical oddities. First Fridays is always a fun time. On the first Friday of each month, people gather in Old City to wander the neighborhood’s various art galleries and sip alcoholic beverages. In addition to all the culture, you can shop ‘til you drop in the upscale shops that line Walnut and Chestnut Streets downtown. If you are a bit more frugal, check out the Gallery Mall, or South Street for great shopping districts. The restaurant scene in Philly is tough to beat. There are the authentic, homestyle restaurants like Monk’s Café and La Terrasse, the extremely upscale places for big wigs like Le Bec Fin and Striped Bass, and everything in between. If you really want to accurately capture the Philadelphia culinary experience, just eat as much grease as you possibly can.

The atmosphere is very busy. Being located in Philadelphia, there is always something to do or somewhere to go. The University of Pennsylvania is very close, so it is easy to use things offered on their campus as well as for social activity. Also located nearby is Temple University, and a short distance away are Villanova and St. Joseph’s University. If you’re coming to college here from a distance, places like the Art Museum, City Hall, and Independence Mall are good places to visit. |

Local Atmosphere
A
Philadelphia is a great city. I absolutely love living in the city because there's always a lot to do, but it's not as overwhelming as bigger cities like New York or Los Angeles. It has everything you could possibly want!

I like living in the city of Philadelphia. There is always something to do, and there are always new areas to explore. UPenn is just a couple of blocks away, and Temple is a subway ride away. There are certain parts of the city that are not the safest areas, but that comes with every city. Places of interest for everyone are Pat’s or Geno’s Cheesesteaks, Penn’s Landing, South Street, the Gallery, and anywhere in Center City. |

The area of Philadelphia...
The area of Philadelphia containing the campus is very hospitable. I have never felt uneasy walking around campus at night, let alone during the day. Penn is right next door, home to many stores, shops, and attractions. I would suggest getting into anything that you are interested in. I did, and although my grades were not as stellar as many, I developed lasting friendships through many extracurricular activities such as work, clubs, and athletics. |

Drexel is in Philadelphia. It’s a great city if you like walking around. Anything you could possibly imagine is at your fingertips. Our campus is on a major street (Market Street). Be careful when crossing it. The University of Pennsylvania is next door. Temple, Villanova, the University of the Sciences, and University of the Arts are not too far away either. I wouldn’t go into West Philly if you are not from around there, or if you’re by yourself. Stuff to see include the Liberty Bell, South Street, the Gallery, Franklin Mills Mall, King of Prussia Mall (watch an IMAX movie), the Art Museum, and so much more. |
