College Prowler Take

The weather is completely unpredictable in Philadelphia. One year, winter will last until May, and the next, summer doesn’t seem to go away. It’s very important to pack clothes for all four seasons. Make sure to bring a hat and scarf because the city wind is brutal in the winter. It’ll rain every day in the spring and half of the winter, so bring two umbrellas, as one will surely get destroyed in the wind. If you are going to buy an umbrella from either the Drexel or Penn bookstore, make sure to do so on a nice day. The minute it begins to rain, all of the umbrellas disappear. It is also important for city dwellers to remember not to stand or walk too close to the edge of the sidewalk in the rain, especially when waiting for a traffic light to change. If you do, you will get sprayed by a passing car, and you will not dry off for a very long time. Your clothes will also turn brown. This can be a very uncomfortable experience to say the least, particularly in the winter.

In the summer, sandals are a good bet. You’ll be too hot in socks and shoes in Philly’s heat. Resist the temptation to go barefoot, as the city streets and sidewalks are loaded with things just waiting to cut you.

Spring and summer are pretty hot (mid-70s and 80s). The winter is freezing, especially because of the wind going through all of the skyscrapers. A heavy jacket, scarf, and even a hat are necessary.

It is usually pretty mild here. In the winter it gets cold and very windy, so you should bring heavy clothes. Since classes go year round, you will be very hot here in the summer. You will have a need for all types of clothes for all weather conditions. Philadelphia weather is pretty wacky.

There are wind tunnels, so it often seems colder than it is. Bring heavy winter gear for traveling to class if you want to stay semi-warm. Other than that, the other seasons, though wet, are generally milder.
