Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The drug scene at Duke is pretty comfortable and not very pushy. If you want them, you can find them; if you don’t, you won't have to worry about it. Student responses reflect that most students are aware that there are drugs on campus, but no one feels threatened by it. It’s almost impossible to get through college without a whiff of something grassy, but alcohol is more prevalent and widely used than any illegal substance. Of course, alcohol plays a major role in the Duke social scene, but such is life on virtually any campus in the United States.

Duke students can go through college with as much or as little drug and alcohol use as they decide upon. There will always be the opportunity to use these substances, especially if your group of friends uses them, but no one should be worried about a pressure to use drugs.

Work Hard Play Hard

Drinking is a very popular weekend activity which goes hand in hand with the dominant sorority and fraternity scene at Duke. However, there is always a host of activities students can choose to partake in, and it is up to individuals to choose how they wish to spend their weekends without peer pressure. Hard drugs are not common on campus; students mainly stick to marijuana and alcohol.
