Overall, Duke is an exceptionally manicured campus filled with equally attractive, put-together people. The old story goes that the guys are better looking than the girls, but in reality, it doesn't take much to find a truly beautiful member of either sex. Most Dukies are conscientious about their image, and it shows—students hit the gym often to stay fit, and people commonly dress up for class and parties. You will meet plenty of people on campus who just seem "too perfect," those students who are good looking, brilliant, funny, and intensely motivated to succeed. While these enigmas can create some pressure on campus, the overall atmosphere consists of happy, social, and smart kids with above-average looks.
In terms of the campus dating scene, students tend to lean much more towards weekend hookups than long-term relationships, but it isn't impossible to find some great couples on campus (and if you stroll through the Gardens or past the Chapel on a nice spring day, you'll quickly find a young Duke alumna in a long white dress having her wedding photos taken).
