  • Drinking underage
  • Having visitors of the opposite sex over after permitted hours
  • Smoking marijuana

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

According to most students, Duquesne is relatively strict, and this strictness is evident in the actions of RAs and the police. If one plans on drinking or using drugs in the dorms, he must be aware of the potential consequences involved with his actions. RAs will write up students who are using alcohol and are underage, but generally will not turn them into the police. If caught using harder drugs, RAs will seek the help of the appropriate authorities.

The heavy police presence on Duquesne’s campus can portray this university as a high-security facility of sorts. While there are a few drug busts and arrests related to alcohol use, the police can also be good-natured and helpful. Many simply get a kick out of students who are obviously drunk but not causing immediate harm to others or themselves. Blatant drug use and selling, however, is not tolerated on this campus in any way, shape, or form.

Dont Get Caught

Depending on where you live the RA's will write you up if you are being stupid. Cerfew is the worst. We are in college so having to kick boys out of our room at 2am seems dumb but I wont complain. Its awesome during the week though when your trying to sleep and your roommate has people in the room...just be smart about everything. If you get caught with alcohol they will pour it out and you'll have to go to a class on it but be smart. People drink, its just how you act when you do

Duquesne's Strictness

The RAs on the floors are very strict about certain things. If you have someone visiting, you have to turn in your Student ID to the front desk and the visitor must stay with you at all times. The police force looks out for any suspicious activity or underage drinking. I have witnessed a pot bust on my floor and know of kids who drink in their room, but haven't been caught yet. If you want to drink, most will go off campus to places around the city.

Way too many stupid rules! Obviously the usual college rules are enforced but sign in rules are overly obnoxous and one of the dorms is even segregated by sex.
