Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Overall, most students are proud of the Duquesne campus. The university goes to great lengths to maintain its pleasant landscaping and tidy walkways. It offers some of the only plush, green lawns for miles, and many students take advantage of them during the warmer months by sunbathing or studying. The majority of the buildings are well-maintained and constantly updated throughout the year. The addition of the Power Center (a new work-out facility) and an indoor track was a much needed upgrade. Students enjoy the basketball court, aerobic classes, and individual TVs on each piece of cardio equipment. The facility has a ballroom where big meetings and events take place. Duq also has a new, larger gym with weight rooms, indoor courts, and studios for aerobics classes.

Students will undoubtedly want to take advantage of the many events that Duquesne hosts throughout the school year. Popular bands and comedians frequent both the Union and AJ Palumbo Center. There are also some smaller, local musical acts at the Red Ring.

The Study Areas

The study areas at Duquesne are very nice. There are many different rooms within the dorms to do single or group study. We also have quiet floors in our library and group study rooms. The best thing about studying is the wireless internet across campus which makes it easy to take your laptop wherever you go.

Favorite Things To Do

Duquesne is host to numerous events that students may find interesting. The NiteSpot is a favorite, featuring fun after-hours activities on weekdays and live entertainment on the weekends. Well-known bands, comedians, and speakers often make their way to the AJ Palumbo Center. With the addition of the restaurant on campus, The Red Ring is host to sports night s that include drink specials, open mic nights, and other entertaining events. Various plays and musicals are performed throughout the year, as well, for those interested in the performing arts. The adventure club hosts trips from skiing to whitewater rafting.

Students can hang out on Academic Walk in nice weather, or pack into the dining halls in not-so-nice weather. Starbucks in the Union has become a popular area to grab a cappuccino and hang with friends. Gumberg Library is a great spot to "study" with all of your friends during midterms and finals. Don't forget running the South Side Loop, if you are athletically inclined. This is a three-mile course through uptown and the South Side that Duquesne students regularly run, jog, or walk.
