Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life at Duquesne can very easily be compared to the athletic situation on campus. It exists on a large scale for those who wish to partake in it, but it remains nearly invisible for those who do not have a desire to rush and pledge a fraternity or sorority. Perhaps the main reason behind this is the lack of on-campus Greek housing. Only specific wings of Towers are dedicated to housing fraternities and sororities. Greek life and related organizations do host numerous events throughout the year, however, with Greek Carnival being the most popular.

For those coming to Duquesne with an interest in Greek life, there are plenty of social and service fraternities and sororities to make the experience worthwhile. Those who wish to pass Greek life by will not be excluded from the social scene either. Many freshmen will find themselves attending off-campus, Greek-related parties, even if they are not involved with Greek life.

Greeks? Hardly.

Greek life IS on campus, but only just. There are no sorority or frat houses, and I rarely hear of them doing anything fun or interesting. Duquesne definitely isn't the place to go for Greek life in Pittsburgh.

Many People Live the Greek Life

Greek life seems to be great for the people in it. Many undergrads form their friends through frats or sororities. It is possible to find friend groups outside of greek life.

Not Worth Paying for It.

It gets hyped up way more than it should. I know a lot of people that drop after a year. Parties are sub-par. I would rather go to a regular party where everyone is invited, not just the same people that you have to be with everyday. They leave no room for meeting new people.

During the fall around homecoming, the Duquesne Greeks host an annual event called Carnival. Here, Greek organizations set up food booths, collect for charities, and write and produce plays and musicals.
