College Prowler Take

Pittsburgh is a friendly city to people from all walks of life. Those from smaller towns, cities, or rural areas should not feel overwhelmed. Most Pittsburgh natives are friendly and willing to help. The Hill District, according to Duquesne’s students, should be avoided after dark. It is not overly crime ridden, but as with any other urban setting, one can expect one or two “bad” areas. Overall, however, Pittsburgh’s many diversions and its friendly residents offer prospective students a pleasant place to live.

There is no shortage of atmosphere or things to do in Pittsburgh. Although many of the downtown attractions close early, the surrounding areas stay open late. From the University of Pittsburgh and CMU to the clubs, bars, and eateries in the South Side, Station Square, or the Strip District, a Duquesne student should never be bored. Pittsburgh is overflowing with shopping areas, dining spots, and other attractions. One should definitely visit the famous Carnegie Museums of Art and History, as well as the Carnegie Science Center and the Andy Warhol Museum. During the winter, two large ski resorts—Seven Springs and Hidden Valley—are within an hour’s drive from the campus. With all of these wonderful attractions in and around the city, one can definitely call Pittsburgh a lively place.

South Side is a really fun and fairly close area to hang out in. Most of Duq's parties are there, and there is also a movie theater, shopping, and restaurants. A lot of students party in Oakland though because it's an easy bus ride away and a lot of fun.

Pittsburgh has a small-town feel in a bustling urban setting. One of the downfalls is that everything downtown closes early in the evening. I’ve never been able to figure that one out.

Pittsburgh is a great city! There is always something to do. Pitt and CMU are close, and one can easily find a party there. You’ll want to avoid the Hill District after dark. Make sure to visit Station Square, the Waterfront, and take a ride on one of the inclines. The skiing at Seven Springs is great for those who enjoy it.

There are loads of universities and colleges around Duquesne. It’s definitely a college town. I was surprised by the large numbers of young, vibrant people to mingle with. Pittsburgh’s a very ‘artsy’ town. Visit the museums. It’s also a party town. There are plenty of bars and clubs around.

When the weather’s nice, you’ll notice a lot of students walking downtown, just to walk around. There are tons of things to do right around Duquesne. The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Robert Morris, and Point Park are all within 10 minutes of Duquesne.
