Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The areas surrounding Duquesne offer a large selection of off-campus housing. Finding an apartment or house is often considered a right of passage among many Duquesne students. This is an easy task, as most off-campus housing falls within a 10-minute driving time. It is recommended that students have a car if they choose to live off campus, as walking from even uptown or the South Side can be uncomfortable during the winter months.

The South Side proves to be the most popular spot for off-campus housing. It offers a wide variety of housing at a reasonable price. It is also relatively safe. Washington Plaza and uptown can be rented cheaply, but they also require a walk in the Hill District, which many students do not wish to undertake. Some students may look to Oakland, but this option requires a vehicle. Shadyside and Squirrel Hill offer the nicest housing options, but they are often beyond most students’ budgets.

SOUTHSIDE!!

Get a house in soutside. Generally, its cheaper, way more fun and you actually have freedom. Its not super close to campus but you can walk when its nice out and Duquesne has started to provide a shuttle for as little as $50/yr. Not the most safe area, but its a city, what can you do?

Limited Housing Options

If you don't want to live on campus after sophomore year, which you probably don't, make sure to look early, like before winter break. Most places in South Side are much cheaper than living on campus, but also are mostly 2-3 bedroom houses. Not the nicest area, but South Side has great night life. You'll have fun there, but be careful when walking around alone at night.

Poor

Students are forced to stay on campus their freshman and sophomore year which seems ridiculous. The only places to live are Southside really.
