College Prowler Take
The areas surrounding Duquesne offer a large selection of off-campus housing. Finding an apartment or house is often considered a right of passage among many Duquesne students. This is an easy task, as most off-campus housing falls within a 10-minute driving time. It is recommended that students have a car if they choose to live off campus, as walking from even uptown or the South Side can be uncomfortable during the winter months. The South Side proves to be the most popular spot for off-campus housing. It offers a wide variety of housing at a reasonable price. It is also relatively safe. Washington Plaza and uptown can be rented cheaply, but they also require a walk in the Hill District, which many students do not wish to undertake. Some students may look to Oakland, but this option requires a vehicle. Shadyside and Squirrel Hill offer the nicest housing options, but they are often beyond most students’ budgets.

Off-campus housing is really convenient. I live in an apartment that is pretty much on campus. It’s the closest off-campus housing in the area. There is another apartment building that costs a bit more to live in, but is within walking distance from campus. |

Off-campus housing is convenient depending on what you want. Housing isn’t impossible to find, and it is cheaper than staying in the dorms. |

Washington Plaza is one choice, and it’s right up the hill from Duquesne. Most students living off campus tend towards the South Side. |

Many people that I know of try to get apartments in Oakland (I think they are crappy, though) or on the South Side. Both places are about 10 minutes, tops, from campus. |
