College Prowler Take
Students new to Duquesne or western Pennsylvania will soon learn how unpredictable the weather can be in this region. In Pittsburgh, one can look forward to experiencing each season in full force. Most students recommend packing for completely unpredictable weather, not just warm clothes for winter and light clothes for summer. An umbrella will become a precious commodity more than once during the school year. Fall is generally comfortable in temperature, with a little rain. Come winter, warm clothes become essential to the Duquesne student’s wardrobe. The temperature usually stays below freezing, and students can expect a decent amount of snow. Spring brings rain and tends to vary in temperature somewhere between “late winter” and “early summer.” Students can usually count on hot summers with, of course, rain. A diverse wardrobe is needed—sometimes within the same week.

Pittsburgh gives you everything to...
Pittsburgh gives you everything to the extreme. Freezing cold winters with lots of snow, and beautiful falls and springs with plenty or rain and sunshine. Summer can be hot and muggy. Many times, this can all occur within the same week. It’s really amazing, albeit a little annoying. |

I’d advise anyone attempting to pack a wardrobe for the school year not to rely on the seasons as a basis for what to pack. Just because the calendar says November does not necessarily mean we’ll have consistently cold weather, especially here in Pittsburgh. I’d suggest bringing both warm-weather and cold-weather clothing. One thing new students should deifnitely pack is an umbrella; it rains at least twice a week here, and climbing up the hills of campus in the rain can quickly ruin anyone’s day. |

The streets are basically wind tunnels, and walking down them on a cold January day is horrible. When the weather is nice, the entire campus comes to life. Everyone is outside instead of being stuck in their dorms. |

I love to ski, and it snows enough around here. Not too much, but just enough. Spring and summer is also very nice. |

Winter sucks big time. Get lots of warm winter clothing if you plan on going outside at all. Summer’s okay. It can get hot—shorts and tank tops are fine. |
