A Pirates Life – Greenville has an energy that wont be found in most college towns. There is a perfect balance of academics, opportunities, and spirit. With Raleigh an hour one way and the beach an hour in the opposite direction there is plenty to do around this area. Close by is NC state, which makes for a competitive sports atmosphere. ECU is a school that will give the perfect college experience.

Saves Gas, Needs Little Work – I dont think the cost for the transportation system with the ECU buses are quite worth what they claim, however they do a decent job in general of time accuracy. Saves me a ton of gas which is very convenient for broke students
With the buses going off campus...helps students but I recommend a bus that drives through the Greenville doctor offices and a few more shopping/business areas.

Yes and No – I dont have a meal plan so I dont eat much in the dining halls however when I do, the cost of food is way too much and the entree's are a bit bland in taste

"Too Good to Be True" Place – I live in one of the many popular student living apartment complexes. Had a very rough start with the place for a took a sublease to an apartment that was not livable nor sanitary. Bug nest, dirty walls and absolutely disgusting carpet. Roommate matching needs severe work. I was a victim of very false advertising and extreme laziness of staff and managers. I now have my apt fixed however my tolerance for rejection of maintenance, forcing unwanted roommates in my apt, and crappy customer service is zero. I pay too much for rent to deal with that.

They Are Okay – The library is huge and in a nice central location on main campus. It's easy to find a quiet spot and a computer. You can rent a room there no problem if you need privacy or a place to meet your study group. The gym is great, very spacious and hosts a variety of activities. The diversity of campus activities is extremely lacking. There isn't anything really artsy or culinary to do. If you like to study and do sports, ECU is great! If not, oh well.

Drugs, What Drugs? I know some people were thrown out of campus living in the beginning of the semester, but there weren't that many. It depends on where you live and who you hang out with. I don't know of anyone who does drugs, but I know a lot of people drink here despite being underage. One club even illegally passes out bracelets allowing underage students to drink. It's a real shame. Policies aren't enforced off campus, but if the school gets wind you're doing something wrong, you will get caught in most cases.

I live off-campus, and I think that it's all right. The dorms were okay the first year, but the meal plan options and the quality of food on-campus is overpriced and nasty, and since you are required to have a meal plan in the dorms... Plus, it's just easier to have your own kitchen on a college schedule most of the time. There's a bunch of different apartment complexes around Greenville, but a lot of them are similar and owned by same or similar management. Most do individual leases, but the parking and transportation for a lot of them could be improved, as well as the amount of fines you have to put up with in off-campus housing. At the dorms, you don't have to worry about overages.

So Many Places to Eat – There are so many places to eat in Greenville. If you go downtown, the prices are unbeatable for the food. There are also classy restaurants such as Red Lobster or Olive Garden close by.

I've Learned So Much – As a nursing major, I know this was the right choice for me. All of my nursing classes fascinate me and I can't imagine any other career I would want to do every day. It's hard, but it is definitely worth it.

Worth It – Most people decide to live off campus after their first year at ECU. This is the norm. There are so many apartment complexes in Greenville and close to the University. There is only room for about 5,000 people on campus. Apartment living is not a huge amount more expensive than living on campus, even with the cost of food.

Crowding During Finals – The library and labs get pretty crowded during finals time. Often it becomes a better option to study at home rather than the library during this time. If you need the library though, I have always been able to find at least one computer to use during any time of the year.

Just for Show – Greek life has had a fairly negative impact on all the people I have known that have joined a fraternity or sorority. It interferes with school work and new pledges become all-consumed by their new "family." Service fraternities or sororities do not seem to be quite as bad. Going to the parties are fun for those who do not have to clean up the aftermath.

Friendly Greenville – The atmosphere of Greenville, NC is without a doubt owing to the students at East Carolina University. Anywhere you go, whether on campus or off, you will meet smiling faces ready to welcome you on their next adventures. There's an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, and bars/clubs downtown, and if the nightlife isn't your scene, there's a ton of outdoor activities.

The weather is mostly warm with scattered chances of rain

The weather is similar to weather evetrywhere in NC, and it doesn't affect me at all.

My Initial Take: the Main Campus – Everything associated with the facilities and faculty/staff are presented decently, orderly and tidey.

The Teams Are Not That Great Overall - but Fan Support Is Pretty High – ECU doesn't have the best teams in basketball or football, although their baseball team is quite good.

They Are Top Notch – They are pretty top notch. They majority of them have the latest operating systems on them and you also have a choice between mac or pc (although there are not as many macs available as pcs).

The Dorms Are a Great Way to Meet Others – The dorm life is not too bad - it is a great way to meet others but living in an apartment off campus has its perks as well!

Several Labs – The computer labs at ECU are very high tech and are rarely crowded. The library is especially accessible and offers the best computers and printing abilities.

There are several areas to park on campus. There are several lots for parking for paid permits and also several areas for free parking (metered spots, etc.). Also, after 6PM anyone can park in the permit areas. There is a huge lot for the library and the fitness area.

East Carolina University sometimes gets a bad reputation as a party school. I was a student athlete and involved in several organizations and clubs. I received a solid education and would push for my own children to attend my alma mater. I never partied at ECU and I also attended other schools such as UNC-Chapel Hill and I would classify UNC as a much larger party school than ECU. I highly rate the academics at ECU.

Health Fitness Specialist – Getting in the Health Fitness major is relatively easy, it requires a min GPA of 2.0 which is not hard to maintain and to pass a Fitness test. After pasing the test you only have to declare the major and that is as simple as talking to the advisor and making sure you have taken the right classes and have enough credits.

Only staff can park on campus. The freshman parking lot was downtown, unsupervised. There aren't enough parking meters.

Lots of Fun – There is plenty to do nightlife-wise because the downtown area is only a block away from the campus and various dorms. Thankfully, in NC you do not have to be 21 to enter the bar, so whether you are old enough to drink or not you can still go with your friends to one of the clubs downtown. There are specials every night and a lot of bars throw certain themed parties or have live music, occasionally celebrity appearances. This past year I met The New Boys at the Rehab Lounge downtown. It always a lot of fun and there are plenty of police on patrol around town and in the streets to keep everyone safe.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
