The HIM Program – Well it's not so tough, the professor are very helpful and the courseload isn't bad at all. There's a more personal interest in helping the student and the material isn't difficult.

My major is nice, the class sizes are small and the courses are somewhat relevant and interesting. as with all degree progams, your mileage may vary. Workload isn't crazy, and the job opportunities should be decent.

There isn't that much to do in Greenville, the downtown scene and apartment complexes hold events regularly though. Greenville is small, but not too small and the biggest major city (Raleigh) is about an hour away.

Good Luck Finding a Spot! Off-campus housing is readily available to anyone who wishes to live near campus but also independently. The only issue is that parking can be a hassle. If you do manage to snag a space, make sure you keep up to date with your meter if there is one; the police love to give tickets.

Everyone Is Involved – East Carolina University is one of the most football spirited schools that I have been to! Tailgating lasts from in the morning (with huge preparation) to celebrating after the game is over. Parents, alumni, and fan bases from all around come out on game days to support all teams of ECU. The football players get a ton of resources from the school to train and perform at their best!

Stay Close to Campus – East Carolina University lies in between Fifth Street and Tenth Street. Close to that are apartment complexes and other student living. The downtown area includes bars and club and is a great place to party. Beyond that, the town opens up to regular people who live there full time with jobs. If out at night, I would advise avoiding those areas.

Easy to Stay on Track – I came to East Carolina University for the Nursing program. Whenever I need help, whether it is with registration or general question, it is always easy and convenient to meet with my advisor. Professors are nice, the campus is beautiful and students are always involved in school activities. The mix makes for a great learning environment.

Love This School – Overall, I love East Carolina. I have so much Pirate Pride, which surprised me, because in high school I wasn't one for school spirit. I have such a diverse group of friends, which is awesome, and I also have an amazing apartment with amazing roommates to look fore ward to. I got involved in a club that really hit home for me and I totally belong there. And lastly, the fun at this school is great.. whether parties at night at houses and apartments or parties during the day at the apt complex pools, you'll never have nothing to do.

Not for Me – As a freshman, I went through most of the sorority recruitment. I stopped participating after the third day. Going into it, I was exciting because I wanted to make friends and be a part of something that I wasn't used to. I came to ECU from the north not knowing a single person at the school, so I saw sororities as a great opportunity. At first, I loved it... the girls at all the houses were so welcoming and nice.. but I soon realized that they told EVERY girl that she was a "perfect fit for the house". One sorority seemed so excited to keep me around.. and the next day I was cut. Don't think this to be the review of some awkward, ugly girl mad at the pretty girls for not liking her... I've never had a shortage of compliments, friends, or guys... maybe my versatile and northern sense of style put them off.

Changed Majors – I am a apparel merchandising major now, but haven't taken any classes yet because I changed my major. My old major was interior design and the program is great. Very tough, but great. I switched because I couldn't see myself as a designer years from now. I am too critical of myself and was overly-stressed, but if you really love it and want a future in interior design.. don't give up!

High Spirited Living – Greenville is a larege area with high spirited living. There are plenty of activities to occupy your time at any given time. The downtown area is located near the school just in case the activities on campus are not cutting it for you.

Parking SUCKS. Good thing the bus system is awesome thought. Parking passes are expensive, yet it's nearly impossible to find spaces except for realllyyyyyy early and reallllyyyyy late at night (aka when no one needs a spot). Not to mention the parking people ticket you like crazy. One time my car was parked in a spot where I didn't have the right permit for it for only 10 minutes and I got a $35 ticket!

Health & Safety:
Health...Meh. Safety...Awesome. The student health center is....kind of a joke. But considering you get free visits (its covered in tuition, you get what you pay for). A good thing is that since NC requires every college student to have insurance, you can use that insurance and go to Physicians East over by the hospital (and med school!) who are awesome! As for safety....not much crime goes on, but when it does, the police are quick to respond. There are not that many incidents on and around campus, and the ECU police do their best to keep everything under control.

Some of the Best in NC. Considering you are in Greenville NC, and no one East of Raleigh or outside of NC has ever heard of the place, the downtown scene is really great. Especially Halloween! There are the famous drunk buses that run on the weekends til 230 am that take you from dt to about every main apartment complex in the area. And even if you live in the furthest dorm, its still only a 10 minute walk to dt. There are plenty of bars and clubs (for both underage and 21+). Parties here are unlike anywhere else you'll go. Whether its a huge party at some apartment (like Sunchase or the Landing) or at a frat house, you'll always find something to do on the weekends. Remember, you can't spell parties without pirates!

The amount of school spirit is crazy! Even just walking around campus on a non-game day is awesome. Whether people are shouting 'Purple! Gold!' or just wearing the school colors, they are proud to be pirates. Football games are a must! And the basketball team (while we are not on the same level as Puke or the Tar Holes) is improving, and its still a lot of fun to watch both the men and women, the atmosphere inside Minges is crazy. Baseball and softball games are a must as well. And if you are interested in volleyball, golf, swimming, diving, track, or just about any other sport....we have it! If you want to participate....our club teams are some of the best! Men and Women's Rugby have made it to National's multiple times; Men's LAX are national champs; Men's and Women's Basketball always make it to National's; Ultimate for both men and women is huge! Being on a club team, or even just playing an IM sport (like innertube water polo!) is one of the best experiences at ECU.

Friendly, Clean and Fun! From the top of the line rec center, to the dining halls, student center and other places to eat, it is always great to meet friends in between classes. You always see people smiling everywhere. Especially during the warm weather (april through october) so many people are out on the mall, studying in the grass, swinging from a hammock, playing catch or just sitting around and talking. Even the library is pretty nice, and it's not that bad to be there (even at 4 am during exam week). The student center is awesome, and has CHEAP bowling and pool (along with video games) and every weekend they show a recent movie in the movie theater. There is always something to do on campus if you're ever bored!

Freshman Experience – Freshamna Experience, not sure if it is at any other schools but its a good way for freshman to get to know one another as well as the campus.

Some teachers have a policy for attendance(3 days and your grade drops a letter grade etc). Others do not have a policy at all.

A Spirtited Experience Not Worth Missing – The college experience of living on campus is not worth missing ever. You need to at least do it once during your college years. The dorms might be gross...the people might be obnoxious... but it's all a part of being a college student. My freshman dorm was really gross, the girls were crazy and out of control, the drama was... way too much sometimes, my RA was ridiculous, and I loved it. It just depends on the dorm you choose and how you look at the whole situation. It doesn't always work out for some...but you should definitely try it.

Decent and Delicious – The dining options on campus are pretty decent. The dining hall always has something...interesting to offer for those who don't have an ample amount of pirate bucks to spend on the other food options around campus. Those options would include: Subway, Chik-fil-A, Pirate Grill, Einsteins, Java City, and even a Chilli's. The people are always pretty friendly and the service is great.

Helpful and Full of Pride – East Carolina has been pretty helpful in every aspect of academics ranging from advisers to class help and anything else you would need. Even in last minute pinches that I need help with, I've gotten the assistance I've required.

An Old, Old Wooden Ship – On the ECU campus, there is an abundance of personalities, ideals, motives, backgrounds, and though there is a club for just about everything under the sun, somehow they seem to be unified through their differences. Different organizations are tolerant of each other, and even supportive of each other. As a general observation, students seem to feel accepted by the campus because of their differences; one finds their home within a group and those they share common interests with. There are those who are not so tolerant of differential qualities, however, they seem to be the minority when scanning the campus. I am involved with the campus ministry Intervarsity, and though there is always room to improve, we strive to appreciate the diversity in our classmates, friends, and neighbors.
College Senior 2011-07-20T03:59:29Z
Its Better to Live Off Campus – The cost of living on campus is very expensive. You can save a few grand just by living in one of the nearest apartments. However, a few of the dorm buildings on campus have just been renovated so it is worth paying the extra dollars. There is a wide selection in apartments and parking is free.

Eating in G-Vegas – The off-campus dining services near East Carolina are wonderful. Almost every restaurant delivers for the students on campus. The prices for the food is usually reasonable and they all give student discounts. The best place to eat is a wing place called "Wings Over Greenville".

Profs Are Always Willing to Help – Here at East Carolina University, the Criminal Justice professors in the undergraduate department are always more than willing to help their students in any way possible. One of my professors would make sure his students were learning by giving intense quizzes on chapters that we had not learned yet. If the quiz grades were not where he wanted them to be he would take time out his week to prepare a study session for his classes.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
