Some of the Best in NC. Considering you are in Greenville NC, and no one East of Raleigh or outside of NC has ever heard of the place, the downtown scene is really great. Especially Halloween! There are the famous drunk buses that run on the weekends til 230 am that take you from dt to about every main apartment complex in the area. And even if you live in the furthest dorm, its still only a 10 minute walk to dt. There are plenty of bars and clubs (for both underage and 21+). Parties here are unlike anywhere else you'll go. Whether its a huge party at some apartment (like Sunchase or the Landing) or at a frat house, you'll always find something to do on the weekends. Remember, you can't spell parties without pirates!

The amount of school spirit is crazy! Even just walking around campus on a non-game day is awesome. Whether people are shouting 'Purple! Gold!' or just wearing the school colors, they are proud to be pirates. Football games are a must! And the basketball team (while we are not on the same level as Puke or the Tar Holes) is improving, and its still a lot of fun to watch both the men and women, the atmosphere inside Minges is crazy. Baseball and softball games are a must as well. And if you are interested in volleyball, golf, swimming, diving, track, or just about any other sport....we have it! If you want to participate....our club teams are some of the best! Men and Women's Rugby have made it to National's multiple times; Men's LAX are national champs; Men's and Women's Basketball always make it to National's; Ultimate for both men and women is huge! Being on a club team, or even just playing an IM sport (like innertube water polo!) is one of the best experiences at ECU.

Friendly, Clean and Fun! From the top of the line rec center, to the dining halls, student center and other places to eat, it is always great to meet friends in between classes. You always see people smiling everywhere. Especially during the warm weather (april through october) so many people are out on the mall, studying in the grass, swinging from a hammock, playing catch or just sitting around and talking. Even the library is pretty nice, and it's not that bad to be there (even at 4 am during exam week). The student center is awesome, and has CHEAP bowling and pool (along with video games) and every weekend they show a recent movie in the movie theater. There is always something to do on campus if you're ever bored!

Freshman Experience – Freshamna Experience, not sure if it is at any other schools but its a good way for freshman to get to know one another as well as the campus.

Some teachers have a policy for attendance(3 days and your grade drops a letter grade etc). Others do not have a policy at all.

A Spirtited Experience Not Worth Missing – The college experience of living on campus is not worth missing ever. You need to at least do it once during your college years. The dorms might be gross...the people might be obnoxious... but it's all a part of being a college student. My freshman dorm was really gross, the girls were crazy and out of control, the drama was... way too much sometimes, my RA was ridiculous, and I loved it. It just depends on the dorm you choose and how you look at the whole situation. It doesn't always work out for some...but you should definitely try it.

Decent and Delicious – The dining options on campus are pretty decent. The dining hall always has something...interesting to offer for those who don't have an ample amount of pirate bucks to spend on the other food options around campus. Those options would include: Subway, Chik-fil-A, Pirate Grill, Einsteins, Java City, and even a Chilli's. The people are always pretty friendly and the service is great.

Helpful and Full of Pride – East Carolina has been pretty helpful in every aspect of academics ranging from advisers to class help and anything else you would need. Even in last minute pinches that I need help with, I've gotten the assistance I've required.

An Old, Old Wooden Ship – On the ECU campus, there is an abundance of personalities, ideals, motives, backgrounds, and though there is a club for just about everything under the sun, somehow they seem to be unified through their differences. Different organizations are tolerant of each other, and even supportive of each other. As a general observation, students seem to feel accepted by the campus because of their differences; one finds their home within a group and those they share common interests with. There are those who are not so tolerant of differential qualities, however, they seem to be the minority when scanning the campus. I am involved with the campus ministry Intervarsity, and though there is always room to improve, we strive to appreciate the diversity in our classmates, friends, and neighbors.

Its Better to Live Off Campus – The cost of living on campus is very expensive. You can save a few grand just by living in one of the nearest apartments. However, a few of the dorm buildings on campus have just been renovated so it is worth paying the extra dollars. There is a wide selection in apartments and parking is free.

Eating in G-Vegas – The off-campus dining services near East Carolina are wonderful. Almost every restaurant delivers for the students on campus. The prices for the food is usually reasonable and they all give student discounts. The best place to eat is a wing place called "Wings Over Greenville".

Profs Are Always Willing to Help – Here at East Carolina University, the Criminal Justice professors in the undergraduate department are always more than willing to help their students in any way possible. One of my professors would make sure his students were learning by giving intense quizzes on chapters that we had not learned yet. If the quiz grades were not where he wanted them to be he would take time out his week to prepare a study session for his classes.

I go to East Carolina University. It has an amazing nursing program, construction program, and other program. The campus is a little small, but alright. Most of the professors here are pretty cool and doing their best ability to make the class interesting.

Feeling the Cut Backs – Financial Aid is an annoying process for most students having to stay on the phone for long periods of time and wait in lines trying to get some help, but the worst part of financial aid lately is how much less they are giving out. I don't get very much financial aid at all and almost never any grants, so it's a struggle for my parents trying to pay for my tuition out of pocket. The financial aid department at ECU is fairly good for sending e-mail notifications and deadline warnings and posting bills in a timely manner.

The "Party School" Reputation – I have been at ECU for two years now, and I have not once witnessed anyone use illegal drugs. Alcohol, on the other hand, is a different story. It's everywhere. Sometimes people will even sneak alcohol into football games or class if they're that desperate and irresponsible. A lot of people smoke weed but it's not as prevalent anymore, especially since smoking of any kind has been banned in the clubs downtown.

Being a "Comm" Major – As a communications major at ECU, it is pleasing that practically all of my classes are taught in the same building. Joyner, the building designated for communication majors, is easy to navigate and the classes, while sometimes challenging and writing-intensive, are usually not extraordinarily difficult. I have never had a teacher within my major that was hard to get along with. The teachers and communication advisors are helpful, and often refer students to the career center and hold workshops for building your resume, landing an internship or job, and going to interviews. There is a lot of stress on finding internships as a communication major, because experience is very important in our fields. Postings in the communications building always indicate internships students can apply for and there is even a blog full of internships just for communication majors of all concentrations.

A lot of courses offered are distance learning courses. The computers at East Carolina are all up to date and the computer labs are excellent. When you need a computer to complete assignment find one is no problem.

I am very well pleased with the courses offered by East Carolina University. There are many subjects that are offered, and I pretty sure many more will be added.

Student Operated Transit Is Amazing – The school transit system is entirely student run and incredibly convenient. Because of the student control, the buses run at appropriate times to the most popular destinations for students all over town. Buses are always clean. For late nights or whenever a student is traveling in an area not serviced by the bus system, "SafeRide" vans are reliable and only a phone call away.

Guys & Girls:
Too Much Greek Life and Partying – Overwhelmingly Greek life oriented, with an overwhelming amount of students being more concerned about where the parties are than the actual education that college offers.

A Chance to Explore – In the Dept of Health and Human Performance, specifically Exercise Physiology, the professors are extremely encouraging and helpful with any concerns you have. The required acting internship during your last semester provides work experience and a chance to practice the skills that you have learned in the classroom on real clients while still under the guidance of individuals with more experience. High quality education with professors who will go out of their way to ensure that you understand and are comfortable with both the information and how to apply it.

Bleed Purple and Gold – Everybody loves our football team. Nobody will ask you if you go to ECU, because everybody has at least one thing that has the University's colors on it. They often give out free shirts and every football season people get pumped and the whole town turns purple and gold.

Melting Pot of Christians – ECU has a lot of black and white students, but there is a considerable amount of other races, but MOST people are christian, so if you are any other religion you will probably be annoyed by all of the christian clubs and their chalk graffiti.

College Kids – I liked ECU's campus and I marveled at the courses that they offered, but it's hard to get past the whole 'party' school atmosphere. The classes are difficult, and it is by no means an Easy school to graduate from. There are a lot of people that go to ECU strictly because it's renowned for the parties, and that gives the school bad credit, even though those kids usually drop out. In my opinion, a degree from ECU is not held to the same standard as the same degree from State or UNC.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
