I think something unique about ECU is the size of the student body. It allows for a lot of one-on-one communication between the students and the professors. No one is overwhelmed by the mass of people that would be in a lecture class. There is plenty of opportunity to get to know the other students in class and even get to know students in other degree programs. At the music building, all the students in one degree program, such as piano, are in a studio class together even if they are not the same year. The music library, concerts, and general music classes allow for students to get to know students in other music concentrations. ECU holds several concerts a week with many guest performers. There is also lots of opportunity for the students to form their own ensembles with which to perform and there is also ample opportunity for the students to perform alongside their professors.
