Despite being a small percentage of the student body, Greeks seem prominent on campus because they are visible. Many Greek students become involved in the Student Government Association and a large portion of the SGA funds for student organizations are appropriated to Greek organizations. Greeks dominate the Homecoming Parade because they are consistently organized, can afford the entry fees, and have time for constructing floats. Many Greek organizations coordinate private parties at clubs and host house parties, which some students enjoy. Not all Greek groups have houses, and the ones that do are not located in a single area of town. Several have made improvements to their houses and property in recent years, and most Greek houses, especially sorority houses, are quite stately. Student opinion of Greek organizations varies drastically. Some students are dedicated to their brothers and sisters, while some students refuse to do what they consider to be buying friends. The political animosity never materializes into Greeks vs. non-Greeks brawls, though. The step shows are probably the most-anticipated and largest Greek-sponsored events on campus, and deservedly so because of the intense hours of practice and planning that precede the events.
