| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
ECU’s Career Center provides counseling for interest evaluation and skill identification, distributes information about job openings, coordinates job fairs and on-campus interviews with various employers, offers workshops for improving interviewing skills and building an effective résumé, and matches students with internships and jobs. The Career Center also publishes two online newsletters, The Quest, for students, and Pirate MAP (Maintaining Alliances and Partnerships), for employers, which include career-related event schedules, as well as articles and advice. Departments and advisors sometimes forward job-opening information that alumni, local community colleges, or organizations send in via e-mail. Some departments also have internships as part of their course offerings. The Career Center is a comprehensive resource for information on internships and finding jobs, and has liaisons for different colleges and schools at ECU. These liaisons often send out e-mail advertisements for on-campus interviews, job openings in North Carolina and sometimes Virginia, majors and career fairs, and other career-seeking opportunities. Students should at least glance at these kinds of e-mails before deleting them, because even if the messages do not list a student’s dream job, reading the openings and desired qualifications may help students in their academic careers and with résumé building.
