College Prowler Take
Greenville’s proximity to the ocean and inland waterways moderates the temperatures here, but the humidity makes winter feel colder and summer stickier. It is always good for students to have a little bit of everything as far as clothes are concerned, but in general, spring semester is cooler than fall semester, and summer is just hot and more extreme than winter. If it snows here, it is usually once or twice in January, and it usually causes schools to close. Students should make use of this time to enjoy themselves, or catch up on work. The snow composition is often wet enough for snowballs and snow-pirates. Since our snow usually ices over before it melts, students may plan for sledding or sliding down College Hill or the hill at the Elm Street ballpark.
Greenville’s rainfall earned us the label “Kidney of the South.” On most sticky summer afternoons, there will be rain or a quick thunderstorm. Hurricane season runs into November, and in the past five years, we have been subjected to the force of at least one hurricane every season, and usually, classes are canceled for at least a day in September.

The weather here in Greenville is very up and down. The temperatures are fairly mild, but during the spring and autumn months, we never know which end of the spectrum to expect on a day-to-day basis. |

There are some days when I am...
There are some days when I am convinced Heaven must have weather like Greenville, North Carolina, and if it doesn’t, then it should. There are a few days in spring and fall, before and after the humidity of summer, when a lot of students hang out outside, studying, doing art projects, or playing football or Frisbee out on the Mall. The bugs and tree frogs do all sorts of singing at night. It’s beautiful and really romantic. Those are the times that get us through the summer. |

Summer in Greenville is...
Summer in Greenville is unbelievably hot and sticky. I have spent so much time at the outdoor pool at the Rec Center in the summer. I did most of my work by the pool last summer. When it got too hot, I’d take a dip in the pool, and then when I was cooled off, I’d go back and study some more. It’s funny to me how welcoming that pool is in the summer and how intimidating it is in January for the Polar Bear Pool Party. |

Greenville weather is the craziest...
Greenville weather is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life. Anybody who’s been here for a month gets to know that really quickly. It will be sunny all day, and then it will rain, and then it will be sunny again, and then it might rain again at night. One week it will be summer, and then the next, all of a sudden, it’s fall, and then it’s summer again. Then the next week, it’ll be winter. It’s crazy. |

We usually have ice storms here...
We usually have ice storms here more than snow storms, so that’s a huge problem with driving because we’re not used to it down here. Of course, it seems like we would be since we seem to have more ice than snow, but every year, or every time we have ice, there are always people who seem to think that driving on ice isn’t any different than driving on the road on a sunny day. They find out quickly that ice isn’t fun. |
