Here at Eastern Mennonite University you are supposed to live on campus for three years. Some students can get by with commuting but others can't. This makes it expensive and really annoying. So you are living on campus pretty much until you are twenty one and then you can live off campus. It drives people crazy and we want to be able to live off campus without being required to be a certain age or grade.

Need to meet certain requirements to live off campus. Getting the apartment isn't an issue, but EMU is located close to JMU which is a huge party school. If you're looking for a clean, Christian environment- stay as close to campus as possible.

the city is small so thats helpful. huge apartment complexes are everywhere since it is a college town. you can live near JMU where the party school is located and a lot more lively or live in a isolated area. depends on what you prefer. the diversity is available and the cost compared to the national average is about the same.

Off-campus selection is decent. Unfortunately, EMU does require all undergrads to live on campus unless they are over 21 AND a senior, or if they live with immediate family members. If one does qualify for off-campus housing, often one can house sit for a professor or find affordable housing.

Since I am a freshman, undergraduate and living on campus I am not necessarily the person to give out advice regarding off-campus housing here at EMU. What I have heard so far from the students living off-campus is how wonderful and affordable the area is.
