Eckerd at a Glance

You WANT to Study Here

You WANT to Study Here The Eckerd College library is a small two-story library with a very modern and efficient draw. This is a spot where you'll often run into 60 percent of the people you know on campus. It's a popular place to study, chat, meet with groups, and relax (some even nap here.) There’s plenty of places to study, including a screened-in patio, comfy armchairs, and various study rooms to vie for.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Eckerd is a really unique school with hundreds of quirky and charming dimensions, but it’s not for everyone. For some, the school is too small, offers limited major options, and has a somewhat repetitive social scene that can make Eckerd fell less like paradise and more like a very, very small tide pool. But for those who continue on at the College for all four years, there are some great memories to be had and life-long connections with both peers and professors to be made. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change Lives,” Eckerd is a school with a lot of potential, opportunities, and amazing experiences, but it is up to you to get involved and craft your own experience for the next four years of your lives.

However, there’s no arguing that the faculty is amazing, the level of interaction is great, and the location is paradise. Eckerd is one of those schools where the world is at your fingertips—students can do everything from participate in a spring break service project overseas to work at the waterfront. There are countless varied activities to help students get involved in all aspects of campus life from academics to international aid or club sports, and there is a slew of support from peers, professors, and alumni to help make your dreams into a reality. Plus, all of this in a setting where the sun sets over your backyard and a walk along the water brings just one more dolphin sighting! For most, it’s hard to believe Eckerd is a college and not just perpetual summer.

Lack of Wifi in Dorms

Most people bring their laptops to the library because there is very poor connection elsewhere. The college is supposed to be known for being "wired", but I have been to other schools with way better connection.

Very Prepared.

I am an environmental major and though I haven't finished my degree yet I feel very confident in my program and my ability to find work in my field after graduation. The classes are fun and engaging and are jam packed with information that you don't even realize you are soaking up because the classes and professors in the environmental program are exceptional.

Awesome Dorm Living

Dorm life at Eckerd college is excellent. All the dorms besides the sigma dorm are centrally located-close to everything on campus. Rooms are generally larger then most other dorms at other schools I've visited. Close to 90% of all students live on campus which is great for social life. There are traditional dorms great for freshman that encourage social life and "friend making." There are also two apartment style dorms that are great for upperclassmen. Also, the view from a select few of the dorms are amazing, overlooking the beautiful Tampa Bay. The price is a average for dorm living, but when else are you going to be living on the water, basically almost beachfront property, oh yeah there's a beach located on campus. Laundry machines located in all the dorms complexes and the cost to do laundry is honestly way cheaper than at many other school, a full load-wash and dry is only $1.25. Traditional dorms all have centrally located communial bathrooms, clean and convienent. The apartment style dorms all have private bathrooms attached to the rooms. The sigma dorm also has bathrooms attached to each room because it is a converted hotel, but sigma is located, almost isolated at the front of campus. Overall dorm living is awesome.
