A Unique Variety of Sports – Although the school is not known for its great athletics, we do have a unique variety of sports. Some of the sports include rugby, sailing, ultimate frisbee, beach volleyball, and field hockey. Unfortunately, our sports as a whole do not perform well, there is little fan support or school spirit. Sports are more of a leisure activity at Eckerd.

Not Very Diverse – no black people, or asians hardly, just a bunch of hippie, pot-smoking, rich white kids. not very charitable to the poor :'( that's why i'm blowing this joint peace outttttt.
Oh, but there are foreign kids which is a plus, but like one on campus even knows about them.

If Its Not There, Create It! I like the majors that they offer and the assistance they provide if you want to stay and create the major with your mentor. Eckerd provides a lot of assistance in helping us graduate and move on to whatever steps I decide. I like the fact that you are required to do an internship to get the hands on experience before graduation.
The assistance that Career Resource Center provides along with the Dean of Students Office assists me in many ways. Its like Eckerd has a pool of resources and all you have to do is figure out a way to connect to them and the doors are forever open.

Most days the weather is amazing. It may rain and be windy every now and then. Most of the time it is nice weather. Beach weather to sunbathe and enjoy the day. I LOVE IT!

Plenty of Options... as Long as You Have Personal Transportation – The Eckerd community has plenty of things to do to give yo a break from studying. The only problem is lack of public transportation. The city is not very well managed for public transportation. I grew up in a metropolitan area where the city bus ran almost every five minutes and every 10mins so you could even go out on weekends. We also have a subway system that allowed you to get around without needing personal transportation. Otherwise, there's plenty to do on the beach, downtown and we are not that far from Tampa, Orlando and Miami.

Take a Taxi – If you don't own a car, take a Taxi. There are fairly cheap Taxis that go anywhere in St. Petersburg. There is also a constantly-running bus, though I don't know the price or its route.
Keep in mind, also, that there are a lot of friendly students on campus with a car. If you need a ride, ask around.

Nearly everyone on the Eckerd College campus is very friendly and open-minded. There is room for every type of person, and every ethnic group.
The only thing that isn't accepted widely is a "negative view of climate change." People at Eckerd are very "green" motivated, and if you don't believe in global warming, you may get your head ripped off (figuratively of course).

Cheap and Eclectic – There are many fast-food restaurants around, and there are also less known cheap chains. The food is not bad, and it's cheap, so I can't complain too much. It would be nice to see some more casual dining in the area though- for those looking to take someone on a date.

NOT necessarily the 12th druggiest school in the US – Considering the recent review that many are outraged at, I have to agree. Basis off of a mere eight reviews is in no way a qualification for Eckerd College to reach that list. This campus is a college campus, for sure with its drug use, but it is not rampant, not forced upon any, and is generally a controlled issue. Any complaints that are ever caused appear to be taken care of and there is no pressure to join in the mischief.
College Junior 2011-12-10T14:47:49Z
It's all a matter of choice – Yes, there are drugs on campus, and they are not particularly hard to get, but peer pressure is not a thing here. I hang out with a group that enjoys smoking, but I said no once and it was done. I have never been pressured or felt like I needed to do it. there are plenty of people here who smoke, but you don't need to.

Dorms Are Fine – I really love the dorm that i live in right now, Zeta. It may look like the 70s, but it is pretty nice with a new lounge. The dorms change yearly, but each has its own personality. For example, Kappa plays a lot of dubstep and parties hard on weekends. The people are really friendly in every dorm though, so you can find a niche anywhere
College Junior 2011-12-10T14:35:51Z
It's Caf Food – There are't a lot of places to eat on campus, just the pub and the caf, but both of those are alright. Just don't expect anything too spectacular, it is school food.

very limited – mainly restricted to pot use

Great School, Some Limitations – Pros: beautiful campus, friendly people, small class size, intelligent professors
cons: food is terrible and limited, very little flexibility for courses which is a HUGE problem if trying to double major/if you hadn't decided your major in the beginning (many students are here for over 4yrs), also choice of professors is limited... basically problems any really small school would have
Recent Alumnus 2011-12-08T04:02:01Z
Very Safe – any alcohol visibility gets written up by campus safety officers who are constantly driving carts around campus to look out for any trouble. many people do smoke pot but there is VERY little hard drug use (especially in comparison to most city schools!. I have never experienced any peer pressure.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – Campus Safety does an outstanding job... in fact I often get annoyed that I always have to present my ID when entering but it is better than them not caring.

I found it easy to get into my major, I simply had to decide what major I would pursue and the faculty were more than accommodating.

Health & Safety:
Living on a small campus, it's not difficult for security to protect the students and keep them safe. There are only two entrances onto campus, via the front and back gate, both of which are monitored 24-7. Being that our south side of campus border is Tampa Bay, the program ECSAR works with campus safety in making sure that no one un-welcomed comes onto campus. If there are ever any safety concerns, each student is promptly sent a text message and an e-mail explaining what is happening and the proper procedures to take. Overall, the students are well protected and secure on campus.

Living in St. Petersburg, there is endless activities and attractions, ranging from spending the day at the beach to shopping at the mall to strolling in downtown St. Pete. across the boardwalk where there are endless shopping attractions and food establishments. There is bowling, ice rinks during the winter season, movie theaters, the Saturday morning market to support local townspeople, and museums. If one can get into Tampa, a short drive from here, they can go to football and baseball games, Hard Rock cafe where it's legal to gamble, the international mall, and so much more. The area of St Petersburg has a generally positive outlook on the students who bring them a lot of business and give the students amazing discounts to encourage the support the students give them. Overall the local atmosphere is a very positive, inviting one.

Alcohol, Weed and Shrooms/Molly/Acid – Because of the alcohol policy on campus (put it (alcohol) in a cup and you can't get in trouble, regardless of age), it makes drinking a popular thing. Not everyone, but the good majority of eckerd kids drink regularly to heavily. Can't play drinking games or have single source containers (kegs, punch bowls) but camps safety isnt very strict and if you're smart about being sneaky you can get away with just about anything.
Almost everyone smokes weed. People are high evrywhere you look. Even student government officials are serious stoners. It is definitely part of eckerd culture to smoke weed. There's not a lot of peer pressure to smoke though. You won't be treated any differently, but most people probably pick there friends based in part on this.
Psychedelics like shrroms, Molly and acid are prevalent on campus. There is an entire dorm, Kappa, that is almost entirely druggies. Put it this way, if you didnt do drugs, you would have no reason to live in that complex. It's also somewhat secluded so it doesn't affect other students too much. On the night of the school carnival (Kappa Karnival) which takes place on the field outside Kappa dorm, everyone is on something. It's crazy.

St Pete has a great climate, pretty much all year round. There really isnt ever a need for a 'winter coat'. It's sunny almost every day, and most students take advantage of that. However, if it's not sunny ( overcast, rainy, chilly) the options of activites is severly limited. But without those days some (most) students would never get homework done.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
