Food Is Ok – The food is okay, a little bland, but it's fine.

No Greeks Allowed – There's no Greek life on campus. Our charter doesn't allow it.

Eckerd sports are not that popular. People support the soccer and basketball teams. The school tries to encourage students to go to games, but not that many people go. The local community embraces Eckerd sports; lots of old people are in the gym at ball games. Intramural sports are pretty fun. We've got all the standard sports plus kickball and dodgeball. There's no local facilities for the golf team though-bummer for them.

House Parties Are the Best – Students who are 21 and up go to bars mostly and club sometimes. House parties are the best. Hanging out in dorms with friends is usually what happens when no house parties are going on and no one wants to go out to bars or clubs. I'm very satisfied with the nightlife though-everyone makes the best of Eckerd.

34th Street – Pretty much anything you want is up 34th: fast food, sit-down restaurant chains, and a few local independent businesses. Everyone hits up Taco Bell and McDonald's late at night and Skyway Jacks in the early a.m. I'm pretty sure every other business on 34th is a place to get food.

Sunny Florida – Having a campus right on the water, coupled with the amount of vitamin D students receive from the amount of sun St. Petersburg gets makes the student body generally more happy.

I don't usually have problems with getting access to Eckerd computers and printers, but the wireless here is extremely shoddy. It wouldn't be as frustrating if administration didn't boast that the wireless was one of the best in the country.

There Is a Lot of Aid If You Look – There is a lot of financial aid from the government if you are from Florida. If you are from out of state, you'll have to work a little harder, but the money is there.

It Is Exactly as They Describe – Eckerd doesn't pretend to be your regular college. Classes are small, teachers are friendly, and the students are unique. It's a unique school, and if you are looking for a different college experience, this is the place to be.

Guys & Girls:
A Wide Variety – There are a lot of different people at Eckerd from every stereotype and clique. You have some hippies, nerds, sketchy kids, jocks, stoners, and every other area you can think of. The ratio is also pretty favorable for guys, at around 2:1 girls to guy.

The Waterfront Is a Great Program – The Waterfront program at Eckerd was one of the draws to come here. Students can check out kayaks, tents, coolers, giant floats, basically anything you need to have a good time on the water if your bored. They offer sailing lessons and if your certified you are able to take a sailboat out whenever. Eckerd really utilizes their proximity to the water with this fun place.

Living on Campus – Living in on-campus housing all four years at school is a good decision. Try as hard as you can to get into Omega and try to get a good view. The difference in view is between a parking lot and a view of the bay. Traditional dorms are honestly not bad compared to other schools. Nu is the party dorm. If you wish you were in a frat/sorority, live in Nu.

Campus Security. The school is quite lax. Campus safety is enforced by police only on very busy party nights. Otherwise, it is patrolled by security staff, who can do very little. As long as you are drinking out of a plastic cup, you are fine. Students over 21 may drink freely from aluminum cans, but may not use glass bottles outside of their rooms because they get broken. Drug policy depends on the dorm you live in. For the most part, students can attain whatever, but if you get too loud or obvious about what you have, you will likely get in trouble with security, and if you have certain drugs, the police will be involved.

Frats and Sororities Are Non Existent. There are no frats or sororities at Eckerd College.

Housing can be very close, but if it is, it is in an apartment or nice houses in a quiet neighborhood. Parties can be had, but often neighbors get upset or the police are called. Good party houses are found downtown, but often this comes with a large decrease in safety. Overall, having a house off campus increases quality of life, cost less than a dorm room in most cases, and brings the freedom of space and kegs.

The Campus Is Isolated – There is no public transportation. The campus is working on improving the ability to get off campus with shuttles to various locations, but for now, to get anywhere off campus you need a car.

Marijuana and Alcohol – We are listed in the top 10 for Reefer Madness, and this is extremely accurate. Drinking is a very popular activity seven days a week for most students. There's a reason so many students refer to the school as Camp Eckerd.

Amazing School, Amazing Faculty, Amazing Education. I wouldn't trade my undergraduate experience for any other one.

Perfect, Except for the Hurricanes. Eckerd is truly "the right climate for learning," except when the occasional hurricane shuts down the campus.

Not So Good – The sports teams are fun. I personally will go to games to support them, but fan support in general is very weak.

Guys & Girls:
It's a Mix – I'd say there is a mixture of people at Eckerd. There are the serious students who actually want to learn, but I feel many are there just to have fun and party non-stop. Then there is a small group who know how to balance studies and partying.

The atmosphere is good for the body and soul. The beach is the perfect place to release stress, and the sun shines almost every day!
