Campus Activities organizes shuttles that can take you to Walmart, the mall, or various other shopping places, and each month there are buses that leave every hour to take students to First Friday in Downtown St. Pete. Eckerd is also apart of the U-haul Car Share program, and you can easily register and rent one of the three cars available whenever you want for a relatively low price. There's also a bus station by the front gate, so if you ever need to take the bus it's easily accessible. You can also get a SafeRide membership for like $50 which can be used in cases of emergency to take you and others to the hospital or things like that.

There are great scholarships that almost ALL students get, but they don't really come close to covering the cost of Eckerd.

It's ok. There is air conditioning, tile floors, communal bathrooms, thin walls, walls that you can't nail into, doors that sometimes stick, and old vents, but pretty much what you would expect. There are a lot of different themed dorms to choose from like health and wellness to volunteering to art themed dorms

All programs are open to all students, and you're encouraged to take classes from a lot of different majors if you're unsure what you want to major in. I switched from Management to Biology and they were really open to my change and helped me a lot. I really like it.

We have a good computer lab and computers throughout the campus. Also you can check out a laptop if yours is being repaired, or you don't have one. They are all a little old, but still work great.

A lot of people here at Eckerd don't like the dining, but honestly, It's great. The meals do get repetitive, but hey, they're always hot and ready on time, and they taste good. There are a lot of options, with three places on campus to choose from. I love the food here. It is expensive, though.

As with many smaller schools, especially liberal arts colleges, major offerings can be somewhat limited. With that said, some of the areas of study offered at Eckerd (like Marine Sciences), are top rate in the US.

Printing is very accessible at the library and there is hardly ever a wait. There are multiple computer labs that are always available but must people have their own laptops. You can pretty much get wifi anywhere on campus which is really cool because you can chill at south beach and do homework or whatever. Sometimes the internet acts slow or stops working but this rarely happens.

There is great opportunity for off campus housing that is affordable, but make sure you look at the neighborhood before you settle. Areas fluctuate from nice to poor and safe to unsafe very quickly. Also those that live off campus tend to miss out on things. It's a trade-off for sure.

There's a lot going on. There are some local clubs and bars for nightlife, not to mention that there are many concerts on weekly basis. The beach is about a 5-10 minute drive away. Tampa is about 45 minutes where Busch Gardens is located. Orlando is about an hour and a half drive if you want to go to Disney or Universal. There is also several malls within a forty minute drive. Tropicana Field is about 20 minutes away for a baseball game and the Bucs stadium isn't far either. There's a ton to do if you're motivated to get out of the Eckerd bubble.

Eckerd is not strict at all. Most teachers try their best to help you succeed. They are not out to fail you. Campus Safety and Resident Advisors enforce the rules, but are not overly strict trying to get people in trouble. Just don't blatantly drink underage or smoke in the dorms and you should never have a problem.

Sunshiney! It rains pretty often in Florida but it usually clears up quickly. We live on the beach!
College Sophomore 2013-07-31T13:40:03Z
we have a bike share program - everything is in walking distance. You can also check out a car if you need something in the area. Eckerd provides weekly vans to local things like the farmers market and walmart. You don't need your own car, but many bring them.

Drugs are available. The most easily available is marijuana. The school has systems set in place to discourage and punish the use and distribution of drugs, but it is easy to see how many of your peers enjoy the use of drugs. Once in a while we have ambulances come for students - mostly for alcohol consumption though. It's really bad on big party nights like kappa karnival.

Sunshine every day. It doesn't get any better than that.

The financial aid office does their best to get you the most money possible and are very friendly in the process.

There are two cafeterias and one pub. They all operate at different times. Just late night food isn't too accessible so everyone has some food stashed away in their dorm.

It's pretty good just finding scholarships is the hard part about going to Eckerd.
College Junior 2013-07-28T20:46:42Z
The workload is difficult but my major (Marine Science) is the most popular major there and there are a lot of connections available for this major after graduation.
College Junior 2013-07-28T20:44:23Z
There are apartment complexes that are not funded by Eckerd. It's just hard to get because a lot of people don't want to rent to college students.
College Junior 2013-07-28T20:29:53Z
As a Marine Science major the workload is rough but there are many resources to take advantage of. The professors always have office hours to help out students if needed and there are peer tutors as well that have become very helpful.

The immediate area surrounding the school is a little sketchy, so never walk around alone at night. But Eckerd is really close to the beach and downtown so there are lots of off campus activities.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T19:22:34Z
The faculty throughout Eckerd are very helpful with whatever you need. They want to see you succeed. Most people here are either business majors or marine science majors.

There are lots of amazing parties but every once and a while there are a couple weekends were the parties turn out to be duds. Plus the first friday of every month the main street in downtown is blocked off for people to walk around and hit some bars. There is usually live music too.
College Sophomore 2013-07-21T19:15:40Z
The food at the main caf is usually not so great. They make the same stuff and it gets pretty boring. Tritons Pub is pretty good. Mostly greasy stuff though they do make wraps as well. The CEC is really good but it is at the front of the campus in Sigma area far-ish away. Off campus has more options but it will add up if you only eat off campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
