Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

From vegetarian choices to a hearty meal of steak and potatoes with a side of collard greens, the cafeteria has a lot of options. Regular items include a cereal station; desserts; grill with burgers, veggie burgers, chicken, and fries; salad bar; sandwich fixings; soup bar; vegetarian options; and a rotating station with international items like stir-fry and crepes. There are always plenty of options, but the more you frequent the cafeteria, the more you begin to pick up on the recycled themes and menu choices. However, there are other dining options: the CEC (a smaller cafeteria on the far side of campus) and the pub.

The meal system at Eckerd works on tiers. Freshmen are automatically enrolled in Tier A, which includes the largest amount of meal blocks; however, this can be downgraded to a plan with less meal blocks and more flex dollars. The pub, which has standard fast food fare, accepts flex dollars, and, at certain times, meal blocks. The best part about dining at the café is that one swipe lets you eat all you want at that meal, so if you eat a lot, it’s not more expensive. Also, the pub and both cafeterias offer a nice social atmosphere even as the food becomes subpar.

It's Caf Food

There are't a lot of places to eat on campus, just the pub and the caf, but both of those are alright. Just don't expect anything too spectacular, it is school food.

Inconsistent

The cafe varies in variety and quality of food based on time of year and meal of the day. We do have a local/organic day once a semester, called low carbon day, because all the food is from within 150 miles (low carbon footprint from transportation of food) or something and the food is AMAZING. But the regular days it's spotty at best.

The dining hours are restrictive and there are not many options on the late night, unless you go off campus. And then you're options are limited to mcdonalds, Wendy's, taco bell; that sort of thing.

One of the upper clansmen dorms (Omega) has a full kitchen equipped with stove, oven, dishwasher. There's decent cabinet and counter space. The quality of the appliances varies room to room, but maintenance is good about fixing things or replacing them very quickly. If something is broken or needs the attention of a professional, it will addressed typically within a day.

Overall, food is not great, but there is definitely worse out there.

Othe Ways to Use Your Meal Plan/Flex Dollars

I like that there are other places to use my flex dollars like the pub.
