Eckerd is a closed campus, which can be both beneficial and inconvenient. Everyone who drives onto campus must pass the security gate at the front entrance. If you’re a student and you have a College permit, they will generally just wave you through, but on the weekends, when things get a little more active, they screen a bit more thoroughly, and there is a police car stationed on campus. Guests can drive onto campus, too, but security will usually make them them fill out a visitors pass, which can delay their arrival a bit.
As far as breaking rules, as long as it is nothing too severe, the case will go through student court, and the rule-breaker will be fined, sentenced with service hours, or other repercussions may be taken. Sometimes, your academic adviser will be notified. Overall, Eckerd is usually pretty fair, but sometimes it just depends on who you’re dealing with. If you get in trouble for anything too wild though, the proper authorities may be called in.
