Quick Stats

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Not to pack so much stuff
  • Science majors have the worst schedules(early-morning classes, long labs).
  • The books for each semester can cost more than what your left arm is worth.
  • Thursday is a weekend night, almost more important than Friday.
  • What to major in
  • Which dorm to live in
Tips to Succeed
  • Get involved with the activities around campus.
  • Get to know your lab assistants—they're usually the one grading labs.
  • Go see your professors and mentor during office hours.
  • If you're going to drink in college, make sure you know your limit. You don't want to be that kid who puked on the couch—or worse.
  • Visit Career Resources with your resume at least once.

Campus & College Unique Perks

We are right on Boca Ciege Bay, with a boat house with unlimited and free access to sailboats, canoes, sea kayaks, sailboards, and multiple power boats used for water skiing, fishings. Although small, great feel and really friendly atmosphere. Academis are good (some majors more rigorous than others) with easy and great access to professors, even 'Pitchers & Profs' at the Pub. We also the Eckerd College Search and Rescue Team (EC-SAR) is one of the most unique co-curricular programs available to full-time, degree seeking Eckerd students and is only at Eckerd. They work closely with the US Coast Guard, 911 Emergency Medical Response, and other state and local agencies, the team provides maritime assistance to the boaters of Tampa Bay. Students are trained in technical rescue, boating safety, seamanship, searching, fire fighting, de-watering, navigation, medical response, and evening piloting rescue vessels. Downtown St Pete is great, the beaches are awesome and Tampa has great professional sports teams.

Amount of Study Abroad and Service Learning

Being an extremely eco-friendly school, Eckerd attempts to do its best with the Service Learning office to show those who want to help an amazing and informative time. There are often Saturday service trips, to any organization that you choose.

In addition, Eckerd has some of the best study abroad offerings out there. With Winter Term trips being one of the best resources freshman can find for broadening their horizons, they are often 3-4 week trips that change peoples' outlooks on life.
