Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Everyone is able to bring a car to campus, even though freshmen are restricted to parking in an inconvenient dirt lot on the far side of campus. But just think of it as a sort of rite of passage because after freshman year, parking becomes a lot more convenient, and you’ll be able to park in the spaces right by the dorms. Campus is pretty small and parking is spread throughout, but a few say finding a spot is sometimes aggravating, if only because everyone is so used to convenient parking. Compared to large state schools, parking—or walking that extra 25 meters—here is a walk in the park. And since the weather is generally always pleasant and getting across campus takes 15 minutes at the most, parking is really no big deal. And if you really hate exercise, you can call Campus Safety to come pick you up at the dirt lot in a golf cart.

Eckerd is a closed campus, with a security booth at the front entrance, which everyone must pass through each time they drive on and off campus. Everyone who doesn’t have a parking decal will be stopped, so definitely fill out the proper paperwork to get one—you’ll be more than glad you did. And it’s easy: At the beginning of each academic year when you pick up your room key, you can also register your vehicle.

Parking

To go to Eckerd you need a car, or a least a bike. Getting off campus with out a car or bike can be very difficult since we are located on a large 6 lane road, which can be terrifying to cross. If you do have a car though, parking isn't so bad. There is always an available parking spot somewhere. However, if you are a freshman you MUST park in the freshman parking lot, unless you want a ticket of about $100.

Terrible Freshman Experience

Although you could bring your car on campus as a freshman, As a freshman you had to park in the freshman lot that was located far from my dorm. As a student playing a sport, it was very difficult to run in and change from class to go to the field. I did get a lot of parking tickets over the year.
