The weather in St. Pete is so nice that most of the time the biggest problem is being productive and getting your homework done when all you want to do is enjoy the beautiful day at the beach. Since St. Petersburg is a peninsula, it has the perfect moderate climate. The surrounding water insulates it in the winter and even though temperatures cool off, it is still warm compared to the majority of the U.S. during this time. In the summer, the breeze off the ocean and bays provide relief, but there’s still plenty of sun.

One thing about the weather that holds true is the crazy rain. Rain in Florida is unpredictable—it will rain cats and dogs for 20 minutes every day for a week (but the sun will return in a half-hour). Sometimes the “rainy season” is a bit of a nuisance, but it never lasts long and is great for puddle jumping. Hurricanes or tropical storms can happen, but Eckerd has not been directly hit in more than 70 years. However, the College will evacuate if there’s even the slightest chance the school will be in the path of a storm.
